I have been running this setup for awhile. The rack mounted easily. I added the three point strap to secure the tire and I also have a cable lock on it. The box is a rocketbox and I need to modify the mounts and used exhaust clamps to attach it. It opens on both sides with no interference...
I have two sets of wheels and always have one on the roof. It is heavy as hell and hurts my range but I would rather have it if needed. I also carry a plug kit, bottle jack, jack stands, compressor, torque wrench and tire lifter.
I carry a full size spare on the roof rack, a bottle jack, two jack stands, a compressor, tire repair kit, lug studs, torque wrench and a wheel lift bar.....all because I like to buy crap on amazon. With all this stuff, if I get a flat, I call my insurance company and have them send someone...
I sold my house and moved on my boat. The box is loaded with crap and it kills my range. It will be removed before I head south for the winter. I was worried about the spare for the first few weeks but it has done fine.
That was probably me. I cobbled together a rack system using bars from Alibaba, a basket from Amazon and a Thule cargo box. The spare is kind of a pickle getting it up there.
Roof rack, basket, spare tire carrier and Thule rocket box. Under screen storage is nice. Above screen storage is very useful. My white seat covers are not holding up well.
I like the rigid supply carrier and would buy one but the truck will not fit in the garage. At 80lbs and 35 inches she is not the easiest thing to wrestle up on the rack, but I still can park inside.
Nice setup. Ironically I own two fishing boats but rarely fish. The Viking is a big pig with Man's and the freedom lift and dink hanging off the back are not conducive for Lake Michigan fishing. The Crevalle is a fabulous boat and may get some more use this summer.
