I am not sure that it is obvious or even true. Sometimes I can talk all day on it, and the next drive it will cut me off after 10 questions. It seems to just be related to server load.

Give that they are backed up until July as it is, I am not sure it is the best option to replace units that have not failed before replacing the ones that have.
If you have the old part you want it to fail sooner because they have not guaranteed extending the coverage of it.
That being said, lower current probably would prolong the life.
