We don't know they are making money on the CT. It wasn't expected to be profitable until some time in Q4. Is that time now?

We'll find out today.

The rivet on the pedal is an issue? Ok...lol
It was mentioned during the earnings call.

If you really wanted one, then you would of had one by now. That's what the last year has been about.
If you don't want to pay interest, pay cash!

Rivet? If they had put it there to begin with, it would have been called a nice design touch. It actually breaks up the monotonous design of the pedal.

$50k was an pre-release estimate BEFORE Covid turned everything upside down.

Just because you can't afford one doesn't mean that you should trash it.
the rivet looks cheap, and 80k just feels overpriced. majority of ct owners atm are just middle aged douches tryna justify 100k imo. teslas lose value like crazy, the only way i can justify 80k atm is with 0%, however i feel my best bet is to wait maybe another year and see the used 80ks come down to probably 65-70. idk if you’ve been following tesla for a while but statistically that’s generally what happens. i also saw a post where a guy brought his vandalized ct into a shop and they didn’t charge it so now it’s bricked. i just don’t think nows the right time to buy gen 1 when there’s probably gonna be so many ironed out features in the future. as bad as i want one now, it just feels like a foolish financial decision.

of course it is. you think it cost them 80k to make ? ?
1. At first it cost more than that.
2. That includes much more than cost of the vehicle, but the lines, employees, etc.

It just became profitable last quarter.

You understand that both Rivian and Ford sell their EV trucks for less than they cost to make, right?

I was at a Tesla location yesterday. I saw at least 20-30 Cybertrucks in the lot, and I didnt even see the whole lot. They are offering 0% on other models, I believe 0% on a Cybertruck could happen in 2025. Its a very compelling incentive and I think Tesla is seeing the success it has had with the 3 & Y. They have a history of offering incentives near the end of a quarter. Maybe wait until December?

cybertrucks been my dream since 2019, and i’ve had my reservation since 2020. im only 34 tho live alone and id say im just an average american. i want a ct bad but its a big investment, the biggest id have ever made. so im just trying to be smart about when. i think a lot of people who aren’t elitist are in my boat waiting for the 7500 tax and the best apy. i think a lot are sitting for design concerns too. just waiting for the right time. hopefully 0% will be avail next year… ideally i’d like to apply my 7500 tax credit for a lower monthly payment too. like how the 7500 is included in 0% apy for ys atm. i’m 6’5 and i would just wait for a model y juniper refresh, but yeah im big and i want to be comfortable. the only thing i didnt like about the ct on test drives was not being able to see out the back, but i feel id get used to it eventually. the rear camera needs a washer too.

You have the right attitude and are being smart about this. Looking back over my life cars have been the largest loss of net worth for me. I have always purchased my vehicles with financing, only to sell them after 3 years. That means I paid little into the principal and mostly interest. If I could do my life over, I would always lease. It sounds like you are trying very hard to avoid the trap I have fallen into over and over. Good on you.

The CT is amazing and will make you feel good, but it wont change your life dramatically or make you happy if you are not already. Wait for the right time, and you will be the better for it.

i appreciate your positive feedback, unfortunately i have made the same conclusion with teslas. it is tech you’re buying, if you’re leasing, you can get new tech every 2-3 years. even tho this is my dream car, i just can’t afford a 20k hit. i’m just trying to be realistic. i’d like to think it would make me happy, but the reality is after a week or 2 i’m sure the novelty would wear off. so you’re right. thank you pops ??

I got the 1.99 on a MYLR four weeks ago. Given the market right now, I’m pretty pleased with that.

While I may agree with you on the rivet through the pedal thing (even though I believe the CT will now wear that rivet as a badge of honor in perpetuity), the rest of your rant is a bit harsh. You say the, "majority of ct owners atm are just middle aged douches tryna justify 100k", seriously?
And then you ask for advice and sympathy? If I were snide, I would respond with something along the lines of congratulating you for at least moving out of your parent's basement.... but I won't. ;)

You have it mostly figured it out. BTW, would you consider a used one? If you are not financially prepared now then just wait, no harm - no foul. Maybe you get "0" percent next year, maybe they will decrease in cost, certainly they will continue to incrementally improve, and just maybe in a year you are in a better place and finally mature enough to join that middle age "douche" club you refer to. Good luck!
