I own a 2024 Cybertruck AWD. I had installed a step in the tow hitch (https://a.co/d/aFB8LnJ), and this step also has a brake light that I had plugged into the 4-pin trailer port. Every time I enter the vehicle/start a new drive, Trailer Mode automatically turns on , which is not useful to me because this is not a trailer but just a step. My main issue is that with trailer mode, FSD no longer works and I need to turn off trailer mode in order to use FSD. It is extremely annoying turning off Trailer Mode whenever I enter the vehicle, so would it be possible to configure the car to always have Trailer Mode turned off even when the 4-pin plug is connected?

That is weird. I have a similar brake light plugged into the hitch, and using the 4-pin power connection there. It does indeed think I should be in Trailer Mode..... which I go ahead and enable. Then FSD still works just fine for me.

I get a message that autosteer is disabled, meaning that FSD is unavailable. Although it does not explicitly say it's because of Trailer Mode, turning it off makes FSD work. Do you think some settings are different? If this is just how it is I'll have to unplug the light because FSD is more important.

I think a possibility is that they somehow miswired the connections

It is registering a fault of some sort, and going into a safer mode

Autosteer is not FSD and I believe you CAN use FSD with a trailer... But why would you want to? Unless the CT had some way to figure out the exact dimensions of the trailer, along with it's turning radius while attached, it wouldn't really be able to do a proper job of turning corners, changing lanes, etc...

Well when I try to turn on FSD ut gives me the error message that autosteer is not avalible, so I assume they are related in a way.

And again, in this case I am not actuallly towing a trailer, it is simply a step that goes into the tow hitch which happens to have a light that connects to the 4-pin.

I guess my best bet is to try to rewire the step and see what happens.

Unplug the light, since it not why you bought step. I do use trailer plug to power extra tail/stop lights I installed and yes I have turn off trailer mode each time I want to use FSD, which is each time I drive my CT. The price I pay to power the additional lighting.
