Ambient LED light brightness

I wanted to know if this is normal. When you are selecting the color, it is bright. Once selected, it dims out even when "auto" is not selected.

Apparently, the brightness of the ambiant lighting is tied into the brightness of the screen so as the screen brightness adjusts, so too does the ambiant lighting.

hopefully picking mine up tomorrow and wondering if I should keep the screen on full bright auto (day/night) or keep it on full bright night.
I too wish for the ambiant lighting to be 100% all the time.
