I recently was mailed the Center Console Organizer Behind Screen Storage Box prototype from @BASENOR. I had no idea what it was at first, but figured it out. Here are my detailed impressions along with a video to give a clear sense of how it functions.
My First Impressions:
The storage box is crafted from a flexible, 3D-printed TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) material. This material strikes a nice balance between durability and flexibility, ensuring that the organizer stays securely in place on the dash behind the display without sliding, while still allowing airflow from the vents. The organizer is thoughtfully sectioned, offering enough space to store frequently used items.
Key Observations:
Fit and Installation: The organizer fits snugly between the dash and the display. Initially, I was hesitant to apply too much pressure when installing it, but the flexible, rubber-like TPE material allowed me to push it into position without concerns about damaging the dashboard or the display. If the organizer were made of hard plastic, this installation might have been riskier, but the flexibility makes it a more user-friendly option.
Display Accessibility: Unlike other storage solutions on the market, this organizer does not attach directly to the display itself. This design choice preserves access to the back of the screen, which is a valuable feature for Tesla owners who often mount wireless chargers or other accessories there. The extra space makes it easier to strategically position these chargers without interference from the organizer.
Potential Concerns: One point of concern is the potential for the base of the organizer to leave indentations on the dashboard over time, particularly due to heat exposure. BASENOR may need to address this to help distribute the weight more evenly and prevent pressure marks, BASENOR reassures that the eco-friendly TPE material is designed to be soft enough to avoid leaving permanent marks. However after a few days of installation, I did notice these marks and will keep a close eye on this.
Security Consideration: Whatever is placed on the tray can be clearly seen from the outside, so be careful what you leave exposed. I don't know that placing a cover over the organizer would accomplish its goal. The open design makes it easy to access stored items, but it also leaves them visible to outsiders, which could be a concern in some areas.
Conclusion:
Overall, the Center Console Organizer by BASENOR is a functional, well-designed accessory that provides practical storage without compromising airflow or access to the vehicle's display. While there are a few areas for improvement, such as the potential for dashboard marks and the lack of a cover for added security, the eco-friendly materials and flexible design make this a solid choice for those looking to keep their Tesla’s interior organized
