I drive through Northern Minnesota frequently and never saw range dip below 200 miles this winter, with winter tires and at 30 below. Where are you at?This comment doesn't take into account use case. I never did a range check on my gas truck because I could fill up my tank at anytime, anywhere, in literally five minutes.
If you live in rural areas and drive long, unencumbered distances, range concern is a real thing. You're right, when I'm near my stomping grounds, I'm not as worried about range. However, when I drive out to projects and take business trips to less populated areas it's a big deal; also with towing. Range in a truck is arguably more important than in car because of the expectation that it will find itself in situations where it will provide hauling or towing utility, in addition to having an aero design that has a higher drag coefficient.
I had a Lightning ER that had the same range as the CT. Drove it 20k mi cross country in 8 months. It added hours to my road trips, at times turning a one day trip into a two day, and it did have some spots where I cut it uncomfortably close to the range limit. I could not tow my trailer in a convenient way. Having experienced this, I had to forgo the CT for the GMC Sierra EV until I see what the extended range pack looks like on the CT. I can confidently say that 440mi of range is the sweet spot for an EV truck that will find itself in rural areas and tow anything shaped like a box.
Until you can top off that 300 miles of range in 5-10min it's going to be a topic with strong opinions. Remember 300 mi of range isn't 300 mi. At highway speeds in the winter time, that number is closer to 150mi range; 86mi of tow range. That's what I was getting off a "320mi range" EV truck. My 440 range Sierra EV gets me around 300mi range in this conditions, so in reality the Sierra is the 300mi range option.
Again, if you're strictly a city driver with occasional road trips, or someone with a lot of time to spare for frequent charging; you will see range with a different lens.
P.S. - Not here to argue, I know this topic gets beaten to death. Just like to provide perspective to the discussion.
