I love my truck, no doubt and will hopefully spend rest of my days with it but honestly, after looking for an SUV I reserved a SCOUT. Not looking on dissing things but would like to get thoughts. (not to change my mind but conversations are fun) Anyone else looking at this?

I reserved the suv with the harvester option. Not much downside to reservation IMHO. By 2028 when they release the vehicle there may be solid state batteries, faster charging etc making the need for the gas generator unnecessary but I like the concept.

The Scout that is delivered may not be the Scout that is the prototype just like the Cybertruck that was delivered was quite a bit different than the Cybertruck prototype. A lot will change in a few years. Prices will almost certainly go up. Available technology changes. Laws and regulations change. It is probably a good idea to have a reservation just in case. The cybertruck design may change over time as well.

As for the gas generator option. I have that today with a generator in my truck bed. No I can't charge while driving but I can extend range with gas or propane.

yeah. I got one as well. Maybe should have got a bigger one because it is slow. Thought the 240v 50 amp would have done better. But non the less how neat would it be to be able to fire that thing up while heading down the road with a plug in the bed and roll.?!

I had a gas generator in my Volt for 7 years... cool feature but not really necessary in this day and age. Don't want to have double the parts that can break and also need oil changes etc.

I reserved the Terrain w/out Harvester.
If it comes out even CLOSE to what it's like today, I'm sold. We'll keep the CT and probably add the Scout to the garage along with our Y. The college kid drives my 3 now anyway.

IMO one of the most important features of all Tesla's is OTA software updates since it keeps the vehicles we spent money on relevant. Will the Scout have this important feature?

I would assume so. The Scout is being made by VW (although it will be marketed separately, not through existing VW dealers). VW cut a multibillion deal with Rivian to share Rivian's technology, including their software. Rivians get OTA updates, so it seems likely that Scouts will too.

To my eye, the future Scout pickup and SUV look a lot like the existing Rivian pickup and SUV.

I think the range extender is kind of silly, considering it doesn’t add more than the current rate of consumption. It’s good for trips which the total length is under 450. But it doesn’t seem to work for longer than that.
It only adds 150 miles if you start at 100% battery. If you stop and supercharge for 15minutes to get 30% more range like a regular supercharge stop, that generated would only give you an extra 45 miles. It’s something. But not sure if it’s worth the cost, filling up, loss of storage, etc. that being said, the Scouts themselves seem pretty cool. It’s high on my wife’s next car list.

We are talking 4 years until it comes out. A lot will change by then. The Scout does look ok but it it really does resemble a Rivian.

I seriously dig both Scouts, and put a reservation down on the Traveler without the Harvester. Those were production-intent prototypes, or so they claim, so I assume they won't change much style-wise from now until production. Hopefully Scout beats all the incoming NADA lawsuits; if they can't sell direct I'm out.

Reserved the Terrain with Range Extender - $100 so no risk. But I'm really waiting for an EV/Range Extender HD Truck to replace my diesel truck for RV duties. So One HD for RV, CB for Daily/Dirtbikes, Wife's SQ7....balanced!

yeah, I love the Rivian as well, but the cost was my deciding factor for a suv. even high for a truck. The CT is more than a truck. The way it's built and as strong as the body is that is what made it for me. But a suv , well..

Same, I plan to get the truck if it is remotely close to what was shown... most likely replace my F150 Lightning, but nothing replaces my CT. Cool that it will be made in my home state as well.
