Okay, maybe a dumb question. And perhaps no one knows the answer. But do you all think the RN# matters once you’ve configured? Or from that point forward does the configure date rule (discounting geographic location for this assumption)?

Reason I ask is I’ve seen a person with a much lower RN#, that configured about the same time we did, just get a VIN #. Does that mean, excluding geography portion of the equation, we’re otherwise close to getting a VIN #?

RN# 11304… Configured 4-27.

Thanks.

Probably. Hard to know. I do know the specific VIN numbers matter, but I'm not sure why. But as for Tesla's scheduling, I think it's just a matter of the region you're in. They all have their own distribution schedules and management.

Basically, the RN is just the order in the system. Once you have configured your CT, the RN no longer matters as you now have a back-end production number in the system.

What matters from that point forward is the config (if you had access to AT or AS tires, white/gray interior, or AWD/Beast as it will need to fit into one of those production slots.

Next would be (as you noted) geographic location. There are a couple of factors here. First, the biggest one, is that the local service center has been trained and equipped for CT maintenance and delivery.

Then, there is a logistics item - do they have slots available on the train/truck heading that direction or will it need to wait for the next one? Depending upon the frequency and route, this could add a day or a couple of weeks to a delivery. As most vehicles are moved to a train, there is the train aspect and then the local truck from the railyard to the service center - perhaps with a storage yard in between if there is no room for them in the service center.

So, a bit of a puzzle and no two places are the same - but the RN no longer applies once configured.

Thanks for the explanation!

in my case, I assume they’re capable of handling it at my receiving SC because they’ve already completed some deliveries. Not sure to what extent and how many employees involved, etc., but for certain some deliveries have happened. And I Live in Atlanta metro area, which is a big transportation crossroads area, so am assuming (but may be wrong) that there would be a fair bit of rail traffic passing through.

And config is an AWD with no changes.

Even with all these known factors, I’ve not a clue when I’ll get it nonetheless. ?

Now you are getting back into the black abyss of the magic 8 ball....

FWIW:
I ordered 12/26, RN11277****, beast, to Pensacola, FL, but changed delivery location to Jacksonville, FL before I got a VIN. VIN assigned 5/22, VIN 13311, still no delivery date.

CaffeinatedUser ordered 1/2, RN11280****, beast, to Jacksonville, FL. They received a VIN on 5/26, VIN 10658, delivery date is tomorrow 5/29.

So I ordered the same truck to the same location earlier and got VIN earlier, but was given a roughly 3 week newer truck (presumably based on VIN) and still haven’t been contacted to schedule delivery. I messaged them and they said it hadn’t arrived yet as of 5/24.

So it all seems to be random. Unless somehow changing the delivery location had happened after I was already linked to an earlier VIN and they had to reassign me because of the delivery location change, but that seems unlikely. I’ve spent way too much time looking at this for other cases to see if there’s a pattern and I couldn’t find one.

Seems pretty random to me at times too, from what I’ve read. Just hoping (wishing?) a general ballpark estimate could kinda be worked out.

I know, I know … the ballpark estimate is sometime between now and the end of the year. ?
