I drive from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas and in some areas on I-15 the speed limit is 80. However, even though I have it set for 85 (the maximum), it only goes 70-73. The road is straight, no traffic, clear weather and no other adverse conditions that would cause it to slow down. It shows on the dash that the speed limit is 80 also. why would it only go 70-73? I thought it might slow down so that there was enough charge to get to the SuperCharger, but there are several along the way, so shouldn’t it adjust to accommodate the speed limit?

What mode? If you set it to Hurry mode, it'll drive faster. And, if someone is behind you, it'll drive faster. If for some reason, it doesn't go as fast as I like, then I squeeze the throttle a little to remind it.

The speed you set is the fastest it will go, not the speed it will go the entire time.

I have the same experience and frustration with FSD seemingly unjustifiably ignoring my speed wishes, unfortunately capped at 85 mph. I'm always in "Hurry" mode (until it resets itself from time to time) and there are no weather, road, traffic or visibility-related reasons that it shouldn't maintain 85.

In some case, a gentle, smooth throttle nudge to get it back there will keep it there--at least for awhile--but frequently it just drops on its own to some random speed south of my target. As I result, I tend to toggle it off and drive myself at the pace I deem safe under the relevant conditions.

As an in-house lawyer, I could make the argument why Tesla applies the cap, but as a huge CT/CB fan, I don't get why it won't maintain that ostensibly lawyer-limited cap when conditions don't render that speed unsafe or unwise.

I'll continue reporting it as the reason I've toggle FSD off and hopefully Tesla will refine FSD accordingly. FSD has improved in the context of other such reports I've submitted (e.g., changed lanes too late; no need to change lanes here; etc.).

I agree it's pretty annoying but if you push on the accelerator and take it up to 85 at least on mine it usually just hangs there until something else happens

In my case it's more of a "sometimes" than a "usually," but otherwise I agree. I already feel like I'm going too slow at 85, so an unjustified further dilution just makes it more enjoyable to take over and "jet" myself where I'm going.
