First I agree with the concept of weighting every feature as to its worth and cost. So a "Standard version" of features should be bare bones-ish.
Now as to those features that can be added for a price? I disagree with many people, probably Elon.
But to what Hridge2020 brought up...
Facial recognition to unlock the car doors...and with an internal camera (it is there just not turned on) to "start" the car and adjust the seat and mirror settings. And that would cost about 2 whole cents per car. So where is it?

Good face recognition isn't fooled by a photo. It does multiple checks and needs some changes as when a person moves their eyes etc. Any locking system can be overcome by a determined thief so using face recognition seems more secure to me then a key or fob. Luke is right the cameras are already there and face rec software exists, this should be a thing.

yeah steal my Tesla (Like you could. The recognition hardware and software wouldn't be like that on your $500 phone)...that seems to be going real well for people that do.

Y'all too serious, I'm not being serious about stealing a car, especially a Tesla that probably knows where it is all times.

On a more serious note, to me it seems like another unnecessary expense (although small) for very little gain. Plus there are people like me who dont like it (data mining) if the phones and key fobs are working well, why add another complication?

All that being said, It seems that they probably will add it because Elon likes scifi and futuristic stuff. Having your car know who's in it and reacting to you seems like a gimmicky thing he would like. I could imagine the car saying "hello Hal, your coffee smells great today, would you like me to plan a course to your job?"

I watched Minority Report again last night, so I'm not really in a good headspace to be excited about this feature.

You could argue that you could steal my X if you got my fob or, more insideously, cloned it at a rest stop. But you can't. You also have to know my PIN.

Well not really old school Space exploration. I mean I don't want to go back to the time when Elon was doing the first archaic steps to interplanetary travel.

They did a great job with Picard. Times such as we live in having Star Trek is needed. Each Trek show has evolved with the times to be relevant to the current time the show was on. Picard was made to be accessible to people who were not star trek fans before as well as nods to us old timers as well. They even drank tranya.
