Seriously, my prior job was analyzing these things, and you're talking out your hat. Again.

Where software and hardware begins and ends is, unfortunately case law is inconsistent on the subject. My opinions are my own, and not many lawyers - even in the software industry - are very good at this.

you've broken the law.
Yeah, but...

... laws are not always written correctly ...

... laws are far too often written to mess with the market in ways that don't need to happen ...

... laws sometimes need to be broken to prove why the law is wrong as it is written and/ or enforced ...

Collecting rainwater and reusing greywater are both technically against the law where I live. But I happily break both laws and will do so until I die.

"Because it's against the law" is not a good enough argument for me.

People need to understand the difference between legislation and common law. You can take the the government to court too, they aren't above the law, neither the "law".

So what the government writes is not above the law, and a judge can overturn it.

It's a bit like when you loose your drivers licence but you go to the judge to get an exemption from the rules so you can continue to drive to work.

Btw for those that don't know or understand the jailbreak process, this specific jailbreak simply exposes the options menu at boot, which you can then enable from a menu.

So it's just as "safe" as Tesla enabling them, so there need not be any concern over compliance etc. Even warranty should technically still be available, unless there is a database check of vehicle features, in which case turn it off again in the menu before service or update and block the IP address for it.
