Thank your for that link, some day there will be technology accessible, with that capability and magnitude. Unfortunately there are very powerful entities that STILL at this time will do everything in their power to keep that technology from happening. It started with Westinghouse and Nicola Tesla and continues today.

History correction: George and Nicola were buddies. It was Edison who tried to throw a monkey wrench into the AC works. Now Nicola did walk away from his Westinghouse shares when George cried poor as I recall and got screwed by him in that sense.

But nothing Edison did was as egregious as what Sarnoff did to Farnworth and Armstrong.

You are correct about Edison, but at some point in time Nicola Tesla was stopped from pursuing his inventions that could have given us all access to cheap limitless electricity. Obviously something that Mr. Westinghouse had a stake in. Their are stories that JP Morgan and the power brokers of the time were the ones pulling the strings and Mr. Westinghouse didn't fair to well either. In any case, The Giants above us, don't take too kindly when people try to take away the Goose that lays their golden eggs.

Nikola Tesla was a genius with an eidetic memory and a visionary. Thomas Edison was a tinkerer and inventor.

Tesla once said of Edison "If he had a needle to find in a haystack he would not stop to reason where it was most likely to be, but would proceed at once, with the feverish diligence of a bee, to examine straw after straw until he found the object of his search. ... I was almost a sorry witness of such doings, knowing that a little theory and calculation would have saved him ninety per cent of his labor."

Both Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse were better businessmen than Nikola Tesla.

I hope you find this passage from W. Bernard Carlson as compelling as I did.

W. Bernard Carlson - professor of science, technology, and society in the School of Engineering and Applied Science and professor of history at the University of Virginia - wrote in his book about Nikola Tesla Tesla: Inventor of the Electrical Age :

'While the contentious end to Tesla's career as an Edison engineer, along with the roles Tesla and Edison played in the competition over AC and DC, may have provided a small factual foundation for the myth of their titanic antagonism, Carlson thinks another source of popular misunderstanding about their relationship is the need many people have for historical figures to be cast in rather simple-minded dichotomies. One such dichotomy, says Carlson, is "the money grubbing businessman versus the dreamy visionary artist." Edison and Tesla, he notes, "have been shoe-horned into this dichotomy." Since Edison proved to be the better businessman, he naturally was set up unfavorably against Tesla. "It seems that we have to have a good guy and a bad guy," Carlson concludes. "There is in the popular mind a battle between commerce and art. Commerce is always the villain, and art is always the victim."

But the reality of innovation is that art and commerce must work together if any invention is to make a significant impact in the world. The research has to find funding and the invention needs to be manufactured, integrated into a larger commercial system, and marketed to consumers. The story, Carlson argues, is always more complex than the simple but popular dichotomies allow.'

Elon Musk is a genius much like Nikola Tesla but fortunately has turned out to be a better businessman than Nikola was.

Tesla was, unfortunately, stopped by impending madness. J. P. Morgan was smart enough to realize that the Wardeclyffe approach wasn't going to work as did the others Tesla approached. Marconi's success didn't help.

...that could have given us all access to cheap limitless electricity.
Er, no. This is the stuff of flat earth, perpetual motion and non integer quantum numbers. Of course people still believe in these things (there are lots of demonstrations of "overunity motors" on YouTube ). No further comment necessary.

Thank you for your response, I read the page you linked. It was interesting. Funny how Carlson simplified things to, People creating a villain and victim. I agree 100% that visionary's have to find commercial value to their theory or idea's for them to see the light of day. Investors have no interest in taking on an endeavor that doesn't have the potential for monetary rewards. There are millions of idea's and theory's that have never seen commercial success. BTW, I disagree art is not the victim. Art is a noble cause, where a true artist or visionary desires to share their vision. Commerce is a cause, to increase wealth.
Hopefully Elon has so much money at his disposal, that he can do whatever he desires with his ideas and visions.
