Hello Cybertruck Owners Forum! We're new here, though we've been on Tesla Motors Club and RivianForums, and Now You Know/Tesla Time News, Out of Spec and others on YouTube. This is the 9th iteration of our annual fundraising raffle that started as a Tesla raffle, and expanded to include Rivians two years ago. Now we've expanded further - this year the winner gets their choice of ANY of the 60 EVs on the market priced at up to $120,000, plus taxes paid!

Tesla Cybertruck New forum vendor - nonprofit fundraiser raffle to win your choice of EV, up to $120K, plus taxes paid! 9th-previous-raffle-winners-jpeg-jpg

There are just over 2000 tickets left out of 5000 - get your tickets today! Ticket sales end on Wednesday, February 26 at 2pm Eastern - if we haven't sold out by then. We will livestream the drawing for winners on Friday, February 28 at 3pm Eastern, going live at 2pm so those interested can watch while our auditors observe us loading the drum.

Our Grand Prize Winner can choose any of nearly 60 EVs on the market priced up to $120,000, with your choice of model and options! Plus, we pay all of the taxes on the Grand Prize, so there are no strings attached if you win. With up to $120K you can choose a Cybertruck, other Tesla, or Rivian loaded with options, a nicely configured Macan EV, BMW, or Mercedes, or something different like a fully-loaded Hyundai Ioniq 5N performance hot hatch - whatever you like! And federal and state taxes (which can amount to as much as $60K) are on us!

Each ticket gives you three chances to win:
  • Grand Prize: Your choice of a fully-customized EV, priced up to $120,000, with all taxes paid by Climate XChange
  • 2nd Prize: $12,500
  • 3rd Prize: $7,500
Your ticket purchases help advance state-level climate policy - a win for the climate whether or not you win!

Climate XChange is a Boston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, rated 4/4 Stars by Charity Navigator and Gold Transparency by Guidestar/Candid. Raffle ticket sales support CXC’s mission to achieve a rapid and equitable transition towards a zero-emissions economy by advancing state climate policy.

P.S. Tickets cannot be purchased while you’re physically located in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Hawaii, Utah, or Washington state, but you can still buy a ticket if you’re traveling to an eligible state during our raffle. Since the restriction is based on your location while making the purchase, you can still enter your home address in a restricted state on your ticket. So, if you have any upcoming travel plans, make sure to add purchasing a ticket to your itinerary! If you have any questions, please reply here or send a DM and we will respond.

I had a question about whether the winner had to travel to Boston to pick up their car.

No need to travel to Boston, if you choose a directly sold vehicle like Tesla/Rivian/Lucid we order it and you pick it up at their closest delivery location. If it's a dealer-sold vehicle we will work with a dealer in your area. Depending on location we will send someone to take photos/video of the delivery or ask you to do it and send to us, so that we can show potential ticket buyers that the raffle is legit.

I don't understand. I can't buy a ticket if I am in California. Why?

Hi Gene, raffle sales over the internet are allowed federally and in most states, but a few states including California prohibit or place significant restrictions on their operation in-state. We operate from Massachusetts where we are registered and permitted to run a charity raffle, but based on our attorney's advice we avoid taking the risk of selling tickets in those states. You are welcome to purchase a ticket when you are not in California or one of the other five restricted states, so I hope you have plans to travel out of state in the next month!

In a similar way, you are blocked from betting on FanDuel, DraftKings, etc. while in California, but you can place bets when you are traveling - and receive the $ if you are lucky enough to win, even if you are back in California at the time of the event.

As this is the Cybertruck Owners Club, I assume a lot of you own Cybertrucks while others are considering or aspiring to own one. I also figure a lot of those in the latter camp would choose a Cybertruck if they won, but what about those who already have one, or aren't yet ready for a CT (e.g. no place to park it in the city, etc.)?

Last I counted there were about 60 EV models available on the US market, from over 20 brands. I can't buy a ticket, but lately I like the Porsche Macan EV Turbo - fun on the road and probably can go off-road a bit, but still a practical ride in the city.

Which would you choose, and why?

I have an AWD CT now. I’d probably choose a Cyberbeast or model X plaid. My mom loves the Falcon wing doors on the X.

I had a very early Model X P90D from March 2016 until fall of 2023 - sold it before the extended warranty ran out. I fortunately had few problems with the doors, just a sensor replaced once. They were annoying if I just wanted to throw something in the back seat, but with the kids they were great - no worries of them door-dinging cars in the parking lot, and when my youngest was still in a car seat I could buckle her in while staying out of the rain. I remember her sitting in the car with the wing up, watching her big sister's soccer game in the rain. The falcon wing advantages were less once the kids got older, but they're still pretty cool.

I personally don’t like raffles as this is just gambling and this one seems to pocket the most. $250 a ticket x 5000 tickets. That’s 1.2 million in funding. Out of that you are giving away $200k. Where does the other $1million go?

while it says it’s a nonprofit, are the financials provided for transparency? How much of it goes to salary?

The intent of the raffle is to raise both funds and awareness for Climate XChange, a 501(c)(3) climate nonprofit with a mission to achieve a rapid and equitable transition towards a zero-emissions economy by advancing state climate policy. The net $ raised, under $1M, help fund our offerings like the State Climate Policy Dashboard, a free resource available to anyone - check it out! It tracks over 60 climate policies in 7 policy areas across all 50 states, allows line-by-line comparisons of up to four states at once, highlights best in class policies, and links to the actual legislation. Also our free of charge State Climate Policy Network, 15,000+ state and municipal level climate officials, researchers, activists, legislators, professors, and others who receive regular newsletters and reports, webinars and legislative updates. Our staff respond to member queries and help connect members in need with others who have relevant experience. We have found over the years that despite the fact that most climate action takes place at the state level, there is limited organized support for the players involved, and we try to address that gap with our small team of <10 staff. It's great if the states leading on climate do more, but there is potentially greater impact from helping mid-tier or laggard states learn from their examples and target the lowest-hanging fruits of climate action.

As noted elsewhere, we pay up to $60K in taxes along with the $120K for the EV and $30K in cash prizes (there was an additional Early Bird prize of $10K, drawn on January 3 from the tickets sold through December 31). Then there are the 3% card payment fees and 5% MA raffle tax on all ticket sales. We have a large marketing budget for Google Ads, YouTube insertions, sponsored articles and vendor fees for forums like this one. We have expenses for web hosting, e-commerce and geofencing software, our Boston raffle permit, etc., plus two part-time technology and graphic design consultants who help put together and maintain the website. Finally we pay attorney and auditor fees, to ensure we are doing everything above board. Several of our staff spend part of their paid time running the raffle, while as a board member I receive no compensation.

And we incur most of this cost no matter how many tickets we sell - the only exceptions are the variable expenses of card fees and raffle tax. Climate XChange is on the hook for the $180K grand prize as soon as we sell the first ticket! Last year we didn't quite sell out due to a state eligibility change, though in most recent years we have - but it often comes right down to the wire. So if you're thinking of starting a raffle to raise money for a nonprofit, I'd advise you to stock up on antacids and blood pressure medicine beforehand - it's not for the faint of heart.

FYI, Climate XChange is highly rated by two big nonprofit watchdogs, Charity Navigator and Guidestar, so you can be confident that even if you don't win, your money is going to a well-run organization. We post our Form 990 Federal returns on our website for all to see. And the drawing is transparently live streamed with our auditors in the room checking everything, so you can be sure it is fair: tune in February 28th at 3pm Eastern - or join from 2pm to watch us methodically load the ticket drum.

Thanks to those who have or will enter the raffle - we're a little behind our target track so we appreciate the support.

Thanks for the information. This must have been a more or less recent decision because I bought tickets in the past. I am out then. Not buying a plane ticket on a chance to win.

Yes, it's always been a gray area, and Climate XChange as an organization was primarily focused on our activities in MA and MD. As our work supporting state climate policy became more national in scope, our attorney more strongly suggested that we restrict sales in California and a few other states, so last raffle we started to do so.

But you don't need to buy a plane ticket - just drive across the border to Oregon, Nevada or Arizona. Or take a boat 12 miles offshore to international waters!

The raffle ended yesterday - not quite a sell out, but we got up to 4672 out of 5000 tickets sold. Thanks to all who participated!

Live stream of the drawing will take place tomorrow, Friday 2/28 at 3pm Eastern. We will go live from 2pm to show the process of loading the drum, interspersed with some videos about our programs.
