I have been reading about ProtectaClear and Sharkhide to help eliminate fingerprints since I don’t plan on installing a wrap after I eventually take delivery.

I remember trying Nyalic on some aluminum metal signs around ten years ago with excellent success. It’s a relatively unknown commercial product that‘s used in the industrial and agriculture space.

I stumbled upon the product by accident and then realized it might work great on the Cybertruck’s stainless steel exterior.

It’s also sold in spray cans and would be a lot easier to apply. Simply prep the panels, mask off the vehicle and start the spray can application process. No messy applicators, trays, etc.

Three aerosol can runs around $60. It‘s also sold in quarts (spray gun), various kits, etc.

At first glance, this stuff is more immediately appealing to me the other coatings that have been being discussed. The website says it's suitable for stainless steel, UV resistant, and I think I'd have a much easier time with a spray can (of something clear) than the fiddly application process of protectaclear.

That said, this is the first I've heard of it. Still, it's intriguing for sure. Thanks for pointing it out!

As for my other posts……………. BE CAREFUL AROUND PLASTIC. Once I see something that needs Acetone or Xylene to remove I kinda shy away from it. There are good reviews and some bad ones. I kinda look down the road for having to re-coat a panel and having to get the product off if you scratch or an uneven application. I am not an expert on any of these products so these are just my thoughts.

Thanks for sharing this. Seems like an amazing product with a proven history. Used on space craft. My truck is named Starship as it reminds me of just that. I didn't see any of the other clear coatings reference they can take the heat or cold temps.

Pasted text from the website:

Nyalic's flexible hard-coat resin forms a permanent protective barrier that:
  • Seals out moisture
  • Blocks corrosive chemicals from direct contact with the underlying surface
  • Is non-conductive
  • Has no effect on heat transfer, does not create heat build up
  • Is thermally stable from below 0°F to 350°F
  • Mitigates galvanic corrosion caused by dissimilar metals
  • Is easily repaired in the field using Nyalic aerosols for touchups
  • Is highly U.V. resistant

I sprayed Nyalic on my 10-year old "do not block garage" steel sign that's on my garage door and it's holding up to the outdoor elements perfectly.

If it needs to be removed, how will that process go?

Nyalic can be removed using a strong solvent like xylene or acetone, along with a white cloth and a lot of effort. Other methods include:
  • Media blasting
  • Sea-2-Sky 203
  • Nyalic Tuff Prep™ (Abrasive Gel): This gel can be used with white 3M Scotch Brite pads to scrub the surface while keeping it wet. Once the oxidation is removed, rinse with water and wash with Right Rinse to remove any residue.
