I got my email today, and I can get a power share installed, which might increase the value of the property (and which might force me to spend the extra money on installation). I live in California, and I really don't see that I will need this. I wouldn't mind getting a charger on the other side of the garage, as I installed one near the EE Panel. I thought I would be issued a voucher and I could purchase the tent. What are some of your advice?

As someone who also lives in California (northern), I am a bit surprised that you don't see a need. My understanding is that the installation comes with a Tesla wall connector (level 2 charger) with the Gateway as well. Having the Gateway installed is what allows Tesla Power Walls and other energy equipment that allows you to go off grid (virtually at least).

My utility company is looking at another double digit rate hike next year and my opinion is that California utility companies are the worst in the entire nation. Getting this equipment installed makes a ton of sense for me.

I'm a but surprised that you don't think it would be useful. But I think I can understand. My rationale is that part of the FS price is going back into my home as an investment. Maybe that helps? Good luck with your decision and I hope something here constitutes the type of advice you are looking for! :)

I also passed on the gateway install and just going with the universal wall charger on the other side of the garage like OP is looking to do. I agree California power companies are the worst. The gateway won’t do much if they increase your rate. It only activates in the case of a power outage and supplies power to parts of your home.

I live in Central California and personally we’ve only had one power outage in the last maybe 5 years, it was overnight and only lasted about 10 minutes. Only reason we knew it because of the alarm clock Time being off.

Whats more useful for us is adding the universal wall charger on the opposite wall of our current charger. My truck only fits into the garage on the side without a charger so if I need to charge then either my truck or my wife’s MY has to go outside. Although our current charger has a 24’ cable, it won’t reach. Having a charger on either side means i can leave my truck inside and charge and allows us to charge simultaneously if needed. A couple of times we both needed to charge and only having one charger sucked.

OP you can get the wall charger installed without including the gateway. That’s what we’re doin. Adding the universal wall charger on the opposite wall. I reached out to our installer to see if we get any kind of voucher for not using the gateway. I’ll update this thread when I find out.

This is exactly what I did too. I got a quote through the required Q-Merit to just install the Universal Charger without the Powershare. It cost around $1,500 to install (and a long run of 3 heavy gauge wires from one side of 3-car garage to the other). I have the powershare still in the box, unopened. I am wondering if it's too late to return it.

I also have the exact same home situation as you (wife with MY and me with CB, but mine won't even fit it the garage...it parks in front on the driveway...)

Does the FS include the PowerShare hardware for free? Or do you have to separately purchase the hardware?

Anyone use their voucher towards the power wall and switch (no gateway needed now with power wall)?

Not everybody owns the homes they live in. And not everybody plans to stay in one place for very long either.

I've moved all around my entire life.
