And when that happens my cybertruck will get an aftermarket battery. It won't be close but it will take a long time. One more battery breakthrough and the average EV gets 450-600 miles and range anxiety is gone and towing is no problem. That might be 10-20 years away but it will happen. Gas will still have its place for awhile but long term EVs will just be the obvious better answer. Right now they have alot of unpleasant tradeoffs (I'm just in it for the FSD and the Cybertruck being insanely cool).
Based on personal experience:
Our last event was at AMP (Atlanta Motorsports Park) which is a road course, and it was fantastic. We had around 50 drivers, with 20 being EV, and had Tesla, Rivian, and BMW sponsoring the event.Based on personal experience:
1) Autocross - EV wins all day every day unless you have a stripped out dedicated autocross gas car. The instant torque and acceleration at lower speeds by an EV is too much for a gas car to overcome.
2) Oval Track - If they mean a Nascar style oval I would expect the gas car to win out at higher speeds. A Model S plaid with track package would be competitive though.
3) Drag Races - EV all day unless again you are talking a hypercar gas car or dedicated 1/4 race car.
4) Ride Alongs - Easier to hear conversations in the EV
5) Car Show - Gas cars often have lots of pretty bits under the hood, EVs not so much...
6) Pro Drifting - Very few EVs allow the driver to do this and those that do don't seem to be in competitions very often so I'd give the nod to gas cars here although I'd like to see someone show up in a Cybertruck in Baja mode
7) LeMans style race course - I know, it wasn't asked, but I have pitted EV vs Gas on the same track and it can go either way depending on the track setup and which EV vs which gas car. To me, that would be the most "fun" but doesn't seem to be a choice. When I look up Lanier Raceway it looks like an oval, they should have chosen Road Atlanta instead IMHO...
Thanks for explaining the mission, I wasn't trying to criticize the selection only stating my preference and complexity agree there are few people who HPDE in an EV. Good luck with the event, wish it was closer for me. ?Our last event was at AMP (Atlanta Motorsports Park) which is a road course, and it was fantastic. The decision to host the 2025 event at Lanier Raceway was made to encourage divers with less HPDE experience to participate. The pool of HPDE drivers is already pretty limited, and when you account for HPDE EV drivers, it is very very small. I am usually one of the only EVs at the road course events I attend that have 50-80 total drivers.![]()
Personally, I prefer the road track event more, but it isn't as spectator friendly and brings less value to our sponsors who will be providing demo cars for the ride a long sessions. Our mission is to promote EV adoption by showcasing the performance of the EVs to the auto enthusiast crowd.
