Somebody please make and sell a spare tire mount in the position I show below, so I don't have to make one. The main purpose of the side-and-low position is to keep the rear view camera operational.
I clamped some plywood in front of the rear camera, 15" from the bumper, to simulate a view of a spare tire mounted to the side, and low to the bottom of the bumper. The view from the rear camera shows the close and far sides of the tire from the camera point of view.
This looks like a good rear view can be maintained with a spare tire mounted in the optimal position.
