While that is my usual mounting spot, I sometimes mount it to my crossbar and this new tripod gives me flexibility to be away from the truck and still use the Starlink Mini. I like the flexibility...

Folks this is not a mount for the truck this is a mount and battery for when you are away from the truck. For example, you drive to base camp and then hike up a mountain with this in your backpack. Set up camp and deploy. Maybe you need wifi and internet somewhere that your truck cannot go, that is what this is for. Hope that helps.

Yes. Fully understand that. They sent me this tripod too. The design is very cool. The vast majority of the time I’m not taking the mini out of the windshield to take it away from the car though is the guys point that I’m agreeing with.

Yes looks like same item, although I think they overstate the battery life, i calculate 6-7.5 hours depending on conditions, and under heavy use it could be 5.5, ymmv.
