Well, Tesla Sentry cam doesn't include cabin video, and requires there to be a storage device added by the owner in the cabin. The thief would have access to it.

Is it really worth having a dangerous high speed chase to catch a car thief?

We have safe ways of recovering the car, we don’t need to risk people’s lives to catch a car thief. Maybe if it was a violent criminal?

Teslas are low theft cars because they are easy to trace and near impossible to resell.

Maybe the outside sentry cams would have taken video of him walking up to, and away from the car at least.
But I really believe the police could have used this as an opportunity to follow the thief without him knowing, and gather lots of intelligence. Without having the car thief, and their police officers endangering the public with a high speed pursuit. They had a helicopter and all the tools available to back off, and still follow the vehicle.

Well, police do try to interdict drivers that are acting hazardous, so I can only presume that was their reason.

Yes, police have to deal with people and situations I wouldn't want to deal with, all the time. I'm not anti-police, and I don't know all the facts.
Here's an article with some video, and this just seems like the police should look into this, and with 20-20 hindsight, see if they should have handled it a little different. Especially when a vehicle has a tracker.
