There is a video Tesla posted on YouTube a few weeks ago saying how CT is the perfect family travel vehicle. It showed all the family's suitcases in the vault. I laughed, because my first trip in my truck was horribly sidetracked when we drove through a pouring rain and my family's luggage was all soaked. I am back to road tripping in the M3P, the CT is not a road trip vehicle if you have more than a few dufflebags. Tesla's line is this is how the vault is supposed to be, despite them falsely advertising otherwise.
So... the vault was never advertised to be a waterproof vessel. Also this is a super easy fix by not stacking your stuff up near the top where water can ingress. The bed is corrugated, so water won't get your stuff wet when it drains to the tailgate.

My experience has not been the same. Outside of the range, CT is my favorite family travel vehicle. Last Thanksgiving we did a family trip to Oceanside and had a wonderful time. I was able to take my parents and a whole bunch of beach and camera gear plus all of our luggage and my stepmom’s wheelchair with ease.

Maybe I just haven’t had the right kind of deluge, but I’ve been in snow and rain of the sort we get out west and I’ve just not had any issues with leaking. šŸ¤·šŸ¾

It was a bad storm we drove through, buckets were coming down. The issue is we had sun at departure and arrival. When doing an 8 hour drive it is impossible to know if it will rain somewhere on the route. Our first night at Rehoboth Beach was spent at a laundromat, was less than pleasant.
