This is obvious to some on this forum, but it will be a new thought to others.

Tesla FSD is always running, whether you have it turned on or not. If you are the one driving, FSD is still running but in shadow mode -- making all the same decisions but comparing these decisions to yours to make FSD better for everyone.

That's why you can turn on FSD by pressing the on-screen button or the thumb wheel and the FSD takes over IMMEDIATELY. It is able to take over driving without any startup delay. It was driving all along you just pressed a button to give it permission to take the controls. More like a co-pilot than autopilot - ready to take over at any time.

Anyone have any experience with FSD/safety taking over when you are driving manually? I had to reduce how aggressive it was as I was getting "road departure" events that were pure BS. Was wondering what would happen if T detected a deer or a bear - that I did not. Would T brake/swerve? Or allow me to hit the animal?

Lane Departure Avoidance now defaults to Assist with every drive. I find that incredibly annoying. There is a section on my commute where it always kicks in. When setting it to Off, there is a notice that it'll reset to Assist at the next drive. Warning does not have that notice, but it still resets to Assist on the next drive.

If someone knows how to permanently keep it from going to Assist, let me know!
