TPMS reading vs Reality

I am a bit of a tire geek and try to keep my tires at or above the recommended pressures, it not only by a slight bit. I try to monitor my tires semi-constantly and keep them in great shape to make them last.

I have noticed the CT TMS seems to be off by 5.5-6%+ on the pressures that they report.

I noticed that the tires were squaking at me at about 47lbs. I checked them and the digital meters said they were right at 50 which is about 6% difference. I raised it to about 53 on a regular pressure tester and the Tesla showed 50.

I like them a few lbs over for good measure, especially during the cold weather because the cold impacts air density.

I like the CT to report 53lbs. My electronic air tester shows 56. I tried a few other digital testers and a manual version. They show 56. That may be a tad bit much. But the CT says 53!

Anyone else see such a delta on what Tesla TMS reports vs actuals?

I have seen this on almost every ride I have had and it drives me nuts. I basically use the TPMS numbers as a “okay I don’t have a flat” and check them regularly with a different tool.

Oh I agree! But then after a trip, it says "You could have better mileage if you"... "keep your tire pressure above 50". It is ?

My point is, if they are gonna bug us, they might as well make it more accurate.

Guess the real question is, what the heck are ALL of them off? I mean we put humans on the moon a LONG time ago. Can we make a TPMS system that is accurate?

Were your measurement tools the same temperature as the TPMS sensors at the time of reading?

Have fun checking PSI with wheel covers on. It's the main reason I don't have them on.

I'm using N2 from Costco and they don't loose pressure much. And all readings Costco air station, CT screen, Not digital Pro PSI gauge are about 1 PSI different.

I took em off. This was actually the same as issue pre-wheel covers. Not sure how that impacts issues in a regulated temperature room and they don't touch the tires.
