We suggest taking rags to the laundromat as it will wash them and the water goes through a treatment plant. Do not use fabric softener and do not wash anything contaminated with a flammable substance, those need to be thrown away.

Hi all,

for my previous cars, I maintained rags and applicators by washing them per instructions, but not sure about after CT. Using Bar Keepers Friend, or other cleaner/polishers, results in rags and especially applicator pads to have heavy dark layer on them. What do you guys do with them afterwards? I'm hesitant to wash them in my washing machine as not sure how that dark hard layer will affect the appliance short or long term. I erred on the safe side and discarded all of applicator pads and microfiber rags used in application and further removal of Bar Keepers Friend compound, but that could become unnecessarily wasteful.

What do you guys do? Wash them? Discard them?
It's just the oxidation layer that's been picked up. Aka, dirt.

Bar Keeper's Friend residue doesn't hurt your washer.

PS, trees and oxalis (clover) produce oxalic acid, so it shouldn't hurt septic systems, either.
