Why don’t all base (gray interior + core wheels) 2025 AWD qualify for FTC?

Noticed that some of the <$80K inventory CTs still don’t qualify for the tax credit. I wonder if they were produced last month with overseas battery components?

I expect consumer 7500 credit in the next month to come out. Be patient

2024 models aren’t eligible, so that explains that left one. Not sure why the right one doesn’t qualify. Maybe super early 2025 models didn’t have the new battery yet, but that’s just a guess.

Yep - that’s the big question :)

I would bet that this is the correct explanation. But don't know if there is a way to prove it.

So which of these three identically-configured vehicles would you buy?

A. the 2025 AWD CT at the top for $72,490
B. the 2025 AWD CT at the lower right for $79,990
C. the 2024 AWD CT at the lower left for $78,390

If your answer is (A), then how is Tesla going to sell (B) and (C) and move them out of inventory?

Some people make too much money ($150K individual, $300K married) to qualify for the tax credit. So in that case, (A) and (B) are both $79,900, and there would be a $1600 discount on (C). On the other hand, if you have that much money, you might not be shopping for a base model CT at the lowest possible cost. So you might not buy any of these options.

But if you make that much money, would you shop for the least expensive, base model CT? And if you even did, would you still care about the $1600 discount on 2024 (C), or would you forego the discount to get a newer 2025 (A or B)?
Yep - for folks who don’t qualify for the $7500 FTC, is a $1600 discount worth taking a 2024 model year (which we all know is the exact same truck, but on paper maybe hits the resale value down the road)? I would go for the 2024 if it was at least a $4k discount. And once all the 2024 inventory clears out, those FTC ineligible buyers will probably be tagged for the early 2025 produced VINs…

If we take the $7500 FTC out of the equation, then depending on the person, the 2024 could be the better deal. If you intend to trade it in or sell it within, say, 7 years, resale might be the prevailing factor. But if you plan to keep the truck indefinitely, the 2024 would be (slightly) cheaper to insure, and in excise tax states, would definitely be cheaper tax wise.

Are there any benefits to want to have the older batteries?

Or dry cathode battery issues (on hold etc) and switching back to earlier battery chemistry to sell as leases etc
