Hello Community,

We’ve noticed that some of our valued forum members have questions about hardwire kits and their installation. To help you better understand this essential accessory, we’re kicking off a new series of posts dedicated to the basics of hardwire kits and their proper setup. This is Part 1, and we’ll continue sharing more insights in the coming weeks!
What is a Hardwire Kit?
A hardwire kit is a power cable designed to connect your dash cam directly to your vehicle’s fuse box. It allows the dash cam to draw power even when the engine is off, enabling features like parking mode. This ensures your car is always protected, even when you’re not driving.
Key Benefits of Using a Hardwire Kit
  1. 24/7 Protection: Enables parking mode to monitor your car while parked.
  2. Cleaner Setup: No dangling cables, keeping your dashboard neat and organized.
  3. Battery Safety: Hardwire kits with low-voltage protection prevent your car battery from draining.
Basic Installation Knowledge
Here’s a quick overview of the installation process:
  1. Locate Your Fuse Box: Check your vehicle’s manual to identify its location. Common spots include under the dashboard or hood.
  2. Choose the Right Fuse Slot: Select a fuse slot that provides power only when the car is on (ACC) and another that’s always powered (BAT).
  3. Connect the Ground Wire: Secure the ground wire (black) to a metal bolt or screw that’s connected to your car’s chassis.
  4. Add Low-Voltage Protection: Ensure the hardwire kit has built-in low-voltage protection to safeguard your car battery.
Pro Tip: If you’re unfamiliar with fuse boxes or wiring, we recommend seeking professional help to ensure a safe and proper installation.

None of that applies to Cybertruck (nor any new Tesla)
There is no fuse box
There is no engine
The MV/LV battery is maintained by the vehicle and doesn't follow a typical ICE 12V profile
