mastering this if flippity flippin huge, very hard and well worth the effort.
I do wonder the properties of their alloy, and what kinda post heat treats they do.

I do wonder the properties of their alloy, and what kinda post heat treats they do.
They said it was difficult to do what they wanted, so they have a special alloy that crystalizes slowly. So they actually want it to cool as fast as possible, hence putting it out in the air as soon as possible.

@ 0:19 there is a chunk of metal falling through the cast. Is that normal or was there a malfunction?

Same. Looks like the inlet (I'm sure there's a term for it) point on the casting breaking off. Where they inject the metal for the cast. Like injection molded plastic parts.
