Right, so likely not fireworks. The whistling, could that be battery puncture? I know we want this to be sabotage, and the optics sure point there, but let's not put our blinders on if there could be a serious risk in our garages.
There is no doubt it was Fireworks check 'bdesign' posting at 8:47

Wonder if Tesla can tell from telemetry whether the bed AC outlets were turned on. Probably not, not very relevant to essential vehicle operations.

Makes me think the guy wasn't that bright though, unless he wanted to die with the explosion. While AFAIK one cannot control the AC outlets with the app (probably a good thing given the potential for dire abuse), less than $100 additional would have let a bomber get (probably) clear and trigger the detonation. I won't describe it, not running a suggestion service for terrorists and crazies here, but it's obvious enough if one thinks about it. There's enough consumer tech that a remotely triggered IED can be mostly off-the-shelf if one thinks along those lines.

Actually double dumb, a vehicle that's easily tracked (even if not by Tesla; since the cellular data connection can't be turned off, the cellular provider could still track it), and if Musk's tweet is accurate, the driver didn't even turn off data reporting. Little or no effort to survive or avoid being identified after-the-fact.
Even though it was a pretty large and violent explosion, I bet they can get all data up until the explosion (maybe even after, to be honest). Hollywood fiction has conditioned most people to think that fires and explosions completely obliterate objects into smithereens.

Also, Tesla databases every measurable thing they can think of. That's why they deleted the lumbar function for passengers; statistically no-one ever used it at all.

This is awful but if someone is going to do something like this I’m glad they used a Cybertruck.
It is indeed a tank and probably saved some lives.

My heat breaks for the innocent people nearby. That had to be terrifying.
The local cop is doing a briefing and said the same thing. The cybertruck absorbed the blast.

e: didn't want to post that

He objectively did not do a "good thing" by "confirming" it was not this or that.

Look, you and I both know that musk is reactionary. Sometimes a good thing sometimes not.

This is one of those times when he needs to shut up/sit down / and cooperate.
He is under no obligation to keep the secret that the telemetry was fine until the explosion.

Interesting that he knew so fast that it was rented though. That being the case, he didn't reveal the name of the driver, even though he could probably have found that out too.

But unlike the New Orleans attack, this looks more like it could have been a lone actor. So it's not like hiding details until the Powers That Be (usually more secretive than necessary) decide to release them will assure a better chance of catching someone else or finding out what really happened.

Another thought on data collection.
Was FSD enabled on? If so does that constitute an additional information collection? Aren't there additional things you agree to with FSD on?

As opposed to just using autopilot. Just an interesting metric thought. The outlets may be recorded on FSD as they could have an effect on a power problem while driving FSD.

There is enough hdd space on each tesla for it to record an unbelievably large amount of data (think number of data points, not necessarily large individual files). Ever wonder why Tesla pays millions of dollars each month to provide free data connections to the cars? ;)

For the telemetry, of course. Telsa is a 'big-data' energy company that happens to make vehicles.

You live in a different reality than the rest of us.
Ok, let's hash it out a little.

musk is saying that he/they have "confirmation" that it's either one of two things.

Those two things he posited are a chasm of things.

Can we at least agree that a confirmation means that you know what it is?

Intentional is a possibility, but you don't know unless you did it. We should find out soon enough. The vehicle is parked where there should be ample camera angles. Who parked it? To whom is it registered? I love my CT and also don't want it to kill me.
Who took the License Plate off the truck before the explosion?

In THIS story, there’s this:

I’m suspicious… “a dumpster”
I guess I won't be taking my CT to Trump Hotel Valet for CES Jan 6th to 9th! My CT bricked this morning after receiving the front motor disabled error and rebooting it came back with a ton of errors, after 1 more reboot it bricked with a black screen and I had to use the emergency exit to get out. Towed to new years day closed service center.

No you are fanning the flames, and maybe pouring FUD of gasoline on fire. Maybe because the guy driving in New Orleans was driving a Ford EV Lightning those owners should be prudent too.
Well the New Orleans officials have only called that a rented “Truck” not “EV” or “Ford?!”

Although the officials quickly call the Trump building incident a “CYBERTRUCK?!”

Seems it was intentional. This video shows the truck bed full of gas canisters and other explosive stuff:

This truck seriously ate that explosion for breakfast. VERY impressive!
