Delivery day will soon be upon us. Anyone put together any juicy speculation about availability outside the US? We have seen one driving in Canada, but I believe that was on Californian plates. Before that, New Zealand testing and Mexico, potentially Iceland (or has that been fully debunked?).

Awkward timing as I’m just having to make a decision on a new car, possibly before the delivery event. Now, I’m assuming it will be 2025 before any chance of a European launch, but it would properly piss me off if, in a week, they announce Europe will soon be available, and I’d just taken delivery of a new car!

I expect there is a chance mid 2026 at the very earliest for Australia.

By then, Tesla should have produced over 300,000 units, and may start trickling the odd boatload to different markets. Y took a while to reach Australia.

It is possible to get say 5000 earlier, could be next month for all we know... But unless you are one of the first in line, the odds are imo 26/27.


BTW, having said all that.. keep in mind, there are other factors involved.. spare parts, and vehicle repair training. Both of those need cost and time to set up and maybe a starting consideration when guessing overseas delivery timelines.

I don't see a reason for Tesla to export them beyond North America unless we see another set of giga presses being installed (or whatever needed to get to 500k per year).

We actually get most of the US trucks here, there's a few conversion places that switch the wheel side and dash, and they're doing so many they took over some of the old GM factories.

But the prices are eye watering, over USD $100k for a F150 etc, the larger ones go for $200k in Aussie dollars. It's actually cheaper to buy one in the US and a cabin in Kentucky...

But now Ford has started selling them from their showrooms with a bit better pricing, and Toyota are bringing in the Tundra themselves. MY is most sold vehicle after Tacoma and Ranger I think, so electric is popular here, and only pickup trucks are more popular. So CT would be a good fit for sure.

There's a bit of incentive here, but only around $3000 or so for EVs. They've moved up the luxury tax threshold at least for EVs so that helps keep it competitive as well. They should abolish the tax seeing everyone has pretty much left the Aussie car manufacturing, so I dunno who they are trying to protect with it. Victoria also got the per mile EV tax overturned by the court, which is good. Apparently only the fed. Gov can make those calls.

They stopped selling MS/MX in Australia a few months back. Not enough demand, MY is better value, but MSP was a nice option to have at least. New M3P should be a good replacement though by the looks.

I don't know; does Australia allow RHD imports? I thought they did.

They do now. A few years back they required a huge sign that blocked out the rear window saying RHD vehicle. So it wasn't popular to use beyond collectables. Most are new vehicles are converted now. But I doubt many in the M/MX market would bring there own one in now anymore.

I haven't driven a MX yet, but of all of them I felt most comfortable in a MYP. For me that was the "perfect blend" of comfort, convenience and performance. MS is a bit unwieldy, M3 a bit too tight, although more sporty, for us big guys at least.

But the MS are pricey here in comparison:

From all the numbers I gather now, its a marvel of capability and compromise. If they get dual motor in the mid/low $60s, they will have no shortage on demand. If they need to sell it for $100k, let them sell it you Aussies first.

I'm obviously hoping Tesla isn't quite that loose with it's pricing. Until now Tesla has been pretty good for us, except for the gov imposed taxes, in keeping fairly close to other international prices. The AUD is down atm which doesn't help, but it normally comes in waves so you just have to pick your timing.

I should actually do some more on the spreadsheet again. Would like to see your comparisons at some point, as I agree they are hitting the sweet spot in dimensions, packaging and options with the CT

We saw S/X buyers turn to 3/Y buyers once they became available in the US. Value is a powerful motivator. There were people that rather spend less on a vehicle but bought S/X because that was there only option at the time.

I felt most comfortable in a MYP. For me that was the "perfect blend" of comfort, convenience and performance.
