Getting cold feet. Vin Assigned, pickup anyday. What to do?

I am. I don't have a VIN yet but the more I learn about Cybertruck, the more it seems like a lemon. FS value just doesn't add up to me. It was basically just a way for Tesla to force early adopters like us to pony up for FSD which I would not have done. And explain what the other $8000 is paying for. White plastic inside? The badge etched in it which I don't even like? All this for an unfinished product (no FSD or even autopilot) that they are working out the production kinks. We are literally buying the worst version of Cybertruck for the maximum price. I regret the moment of FOMO when I got the email and blew $1k that I can't get back.

My destination fee is $1995. It would suck to have to pay that.

My 2 cents: I cancelled two weeks ago, lost the $250, and got booted out of the queue permanently. I regret losing the spot in line and likely getting deferred for a couple years, but do not regret giving up the FS. Too many compromises on stuff that I care about. I am looking at an R1T DM at the moment for $20k less with more range (if only driver + did not suck so much) or the Silverado for $5k more with monster specs.

Not exactly, but I assumed I wouldn't be assigned a VIN until September at the earliest and now I'm rushing to try and get financing lined up. I didnt even bother applying for a car loan, just put it on cash. I've got an investment property I own outright I'm trying to set up a HELOC with a local credit union, but I'm worried I won't get it closed in time. I'm in VT, so maybe this will buy me a month, which should help. Otherwise, I might have to trade my 2022 Y LR in in order to make it work. It would really help if I knew even what month I’d be assigned, but it sounds like it’s a huge mystery at least for now.

"going back and forth" exactly! but I am leaning to "back" in last 2 weeks. I will most likely cancel my order (not reservation). main reason is unreasonable mark up with FS, especially "non-exist" FSD and 250/80 miles

Foundation was super easy to justify for me - PowerShare is one of my main uses. And is hugely more useful over buying 123kwh in powerwalls, with the added ability to drive off and find a working SC to recharge my house. The included PowerShare equipment is $3-4K in value.

FSD is a great value when it actually fully works in 3 years. For the truck I can easily seeing keeping it a long time. Versus owning the sedans where it’s much more likely I would sell before it’s really functional.

For me I need a lifestyle truck. I fly RC Turbines, helicopters, mountain bike, etc. this thing is perfect for me. I don’t tow, and when I travel the range is great.

I may swap to higher efficiency tires to get a real world 280/290. Will see how it goes. On my plaid this is about what I get and I love it on trips. Charging should get faster with 800V deployment.

Resale for the next 2 years will be decent as well. Full ramp won’t happen until mid late 2025 so they will go for a premium. If you enjoy the ride until mid/late 2025 I would not be surprised if you could still get $70K -$80K back out of a AWD. Yea it’ll normalize after that.

Sounds like you should indeed cancel. The CT clearly doesn’t meet your needs.

Sorry for a long post but I think some of this needs to be said. A few facts: the FS is not an evil cash grab or some scheme to enrich Tesla just for the sake of it. When it comes to manufacturing ramp, it’s easiest not to have many variations. I.e. don’t let the customer choose different seats or wheels or etc. Each option makes the process more prone to issues. So the idea of FS is born. It’s a trim package. Perhaps like Toyota Heritage or some other silly “1776” package. I digress. But that’s all. It a combination of options chosen for you to simplify ramp as much as possible. But it’s also more. CT capital costs (buying gigs cast, laser cutting machines, building factory, worker salaries, etc) have been going on some time without any revenue to offset that cost. So bringing as much cash as possible early in ramp is also a goal. Hence the FS trim package has FSD. And it’s limited not in number per se rather that it’s offered for a period of time. How long that is ? No one knows. Until the market saturates or earlier if Tesla feels good about their ramp. You can probably put this package together yourself in the future sans the laser etches. That’s it. There is no evil plot. A company trying to survive and get its product out.

Now when it comes to buyers such as OP, they fall into 3 (obvious) categories. 2 have an easy decision facing the choice of FS in front of them. Ones that can afford the fixed option package and want the items in it. And ones that cannot afford the fixed option package. The 3rd is problematic. You can afford it but perhaps you don’t want that exact fixed options. Well here is a side effect of folks that can’t afford the options package. They elect to wait so indirectly this last group also has to weigh in on receiving their CT sooner than later. And later could mean 2 to 3 years not 6 months. As more people see the CT in the wild the order backlog will grow not shrink. We haven’t hit peak deliveries or even close to it. It’s also true that those who wait are usually rewarded when it comes to value. I bought my 3P for almost 70K out the door in 2018. Now you get it for $40k? And it’s a way way better car. Should i have waited ? I am glad I didn’t. I enjoyed that car for 5 years. Sold it and now await the next leg of the journey with CT. You will need to find your answer on your own. There is no conspiracy. Just be honest with yourself as opposed to pleasing others.

Agree. Tesla and all other companies is keep adapting new tech, making better cars. If you always want to wait for the better and cheaper one, you will always wait. Because everytime you are about to buy, you will hear rumors that a better one will coming out lol.

To me, I really want the power share and my wife wants the FSD, so we pulled the trigger on FS. The power share to me is not just simple as back up battery. In the future, it will store your solar engery in day time and sell it in night time. This is not to make money, this is to solve the issue of the electrical load difference in different time and season, which is the main reason you do not see too many V4 supercharging be implemented. You can image how much the extra load the V4 charger will bring to grid. But with power share, this can be sloved.

It’s been made clear power share with CT won’t support time shifting like a powerwall. So it’s really a backup solution.
