Hey all, got my VIN, getting insurance quotes now, loan etc. I also have to get the gateway installed. Realizing this is A LOT of money.
I know, I know... You signed up for this.
I did, but what's the market like?
Those that have it, I know you're getting stares but are people asking to buy it? Rent it?
I am hoping to offset some if not all the monthly until I can sell but want to know your thoughts on if you think it's doable.
Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

If you have to ask…

Cold feet about it being a new car style image all that thing fair game for this vehicle but if you have to ask about cold feet on spending that much money ….
all the sound financial advice would absolutely tell you not to do it. Yes, it may go up in value. Yes, it might not depreciate that much. Yes, you may be able to rent it but 98% in new cars sold most likely go down in value And often times a ton. This one is no different.

I suspect depreciation on these could end up being horrendous, The big appeal now is rarity but after that disappears you’re left with a polarizing vehicle that Tesla could easily cut prices on, I could see AWD at $65k and Beast at $80k in the next couple of years with a few significant updates. I often think it’s not just the number it’s also the “what else could I buy” at that price point? Right now I have a quad motor R1s with 7k miles on it, Tesla have offered $65k trade towards my Cyberbeast so I need to throw in $60k, at that money I could keep the Rivian, buy a new M3P and do a two week luxury European vacation and still have money left.

Do we know for sure that it will depreciate in value when it is a highly sought after truck?

If the thought of 40% depreciation in a year troubles you then you may want to wait or pass. Think of the early Plaid owners with their rare 1,000+HP super sedans (and minivans) looking at $50-60k resale now on $140+k new. In this case we know the first price cut of $20k is coming soon for non-Foundation and probably more early next year if rates stay high. I think $60-65k wholesale/trade-in is what we’re looking at in a year for AWD if there are no surprise price cuts before then.

If someone wants this truck, they want it to drive and to own. I'm definitely not buying these EV cars to resell or trade in but for my enjoyment with my time here on earth.
