I ran across this item which is very intriguing. To produce a black oxide layer on Stainless Steel to aid in corrosion resistance………. All thoughts welcomed. I will be purchasing a sample and testing it on some
Stainless to see how it looks. If anyone else is interested in a flat black CT sans wrap, this may be a viable, easily applying method to get that look. How homogeneous will depend and to what extent it will help with protection against acidic finger prints remains to be seen. Happy experimenting!! Cheers.

In addition, the E-Tec 504 may be worth exploring as determining how it adheres and the chemistry itself.

I am curious as to why 400 series is noted as exclusively Martensitic ? Does that mean it’s full thickness ?

Someone suggested dinples like those of golf balls.

This I think can be DIY'd with a strong pneumatic tool.

I guess this will help with range with it's new aerodynamics and fly higher in case you overshoot the freeway. :p

Big corrosion differences between different series of stainless, I think in all likelihood with this being a new SS recipe by Tesla / SpaceX it will be a "wait and find out" kind of situation.

it’s not even close to the same. There are a dozen different types of 300 series stainless. Each with a different application. Do some research…

Just for context, PJ Grady posted these photos to demonstrate the kind of damage that can be repaired. From that page:

"Stainless corrosion is becoming more of a problem with Deloreans, due to their age, and depending on how they are stored. The sheet metal is 304 grade. If DMC had opted for better quality stainless ie 316, this would not be a problem with the cars.
Pitting seem here is in the 'second phase' Level one is very mild and even a hard buff with a wolf wheel can remove it, however Level 3 is so serious the pits can eat through the panel."

Noticed some patina already starting

I am exploring protective measures

Is vehicle wrapping the sole option to prevent such damage or discoloration?
