No, I viewed the photo on a 42" 4K OLED lol. Those gaps and alignments are well within spec. This isn't rocket construction, it's mass market assembly. Perfection is not in the cards.
What does "within spec" mean to you? Seems like we agree the standards they're holding themselves to are trash

To answer that question, we would have to have a copy of the production engineering design plans.

-Is the tailgate supposed to meet up with the rear quarter at a 90 degree angle on all sides?

-Are the tolerances between panels there for a reason? (mud, snow, etc interfering with closing the gate?)

There are so many factors at play when it comes to real world designs. Taking into consideration that they are still manually assembling vehicles to an extent while the automation is validated and sped up, we really don't know a lot of these things.

No wrapped edges sounds like an edge peeling problem. But I don't know, this is the first I've seen this.

The contrast between the amazing job the painter did (with high precision and attention to detail), and the haphazard panel gaps/misalignments of the CT is kinda embarrassing for Tesla. I hope they tighten these lines up by the time they finish the Foundation Series

You are missing the horizontal line in the A.

First liquid PPF "painted" Cybertruck in Rosso Ferrari Red, applied by ixuviate.

Advantage over painting because this is peelable and less expensive.

Great to see a wrap alternative. Looks stunning. If you don't mind sharing, how much did it cost - assuming more than a wrap.

Very nice. If you are going for the complete Ferrari look, have you thought about doing the side mirrors too? I did that on my Ducati. Definitely adds to the look

Do you need to ruff up the surface so it will adhere better? As with some of the wraps, the edges don't look great.
What was the prep like? Also how did the longevity hold up? Is it still relatively mint ?@stumby

Dude? What’s with the nostalgia tour today? ?

Also, how is this any different from just plastic dip? And if it isn’t there’s no prep; clean it, spray it, it sticks and the corners do not curl. When you’re ready to change you peel it off.

we used it to do Crome delete on my wife’s X3, minor chrome delete on my C7 Corvette (Crome ā€œretainerā€ strip around the front end) and extensive use on my FJ to get rid of silver fenders until I replaced them with permanent blackout versions, and to black out my OEM wheels until I had them powder coated.

The stuff last for years and is incredibly easy to touch up. A skilled painter like we hired can make the finish absolutely flawless. Itself levels and is surprisingly rugged when done right.

Got bored couldn’t sleep went down a google rabbit hole that led me to existing threads about my topic. But to answer your question plastidip and liquid ppf are different but share some similarities.

Here’s a breakdown of the key differences between liquid PPF (Paint Protection Film) and regular Plasti Dip:

1. Purpose
  • Liquid PPF: Primarily designed for paint protection. It acts like a peelable clear bra, shielding your paint from scratches, chips, and environmental contaminants.
  • Plasti Dip: Designed as a temporary color change or coating. It’s a rubberized spray-on product that gives a matte (or sometimes gloss) finish and can change the look of a surface while offering some minor protection.
2. Appearance
  • Liquid PPF: Dries clear and glossy, preserving the original look of the paint.
  • Plasti Dip: Usually dries matte, and comes in various colors. Glossifiers are available, but it still won’t match the clarity of liquid PPF.

3. Durability
  • Liquid PPF: Typically more durable, UV-resistant, and better at self-healing (some formulas).
  • Plasti Dip: Less durable and may fade or peel faster under UV exposure or harsh conditions.
4. Protection Level
  • Liquid PPF: Offers real paint protection, similar to traditional clear bra PPF films, against rock chips, scratches, and road debris.
  • Plasti Dip: Offers light protection, mainly from light scratches and minor dings. Not designed for impact resistance.

5. Removability
  • Both are peelable, but:
    • Liquid PPF is generally easier to peel cleanly if applied thick enough.
    • Plasti Dip may come off in pieces or leave residue if applied in thin coats.

6. Cost
  • Liquid PPF: More expensive due to its materials and purpose.
  • Plasti Dip: More affordable, often used for DIY color changes or accents.

Use Case Summary

  • Liquid PPF: Great if you want to protect your paint invisibly without permanent film.
  • Plasti Dip: Ideal for changing color temporarily with some light protection.
