I think a lot of buyers are having this misconception that it’s going to change your image and try to make you look important.

I reserved the Cybertruck when I realized what a good truck it was going to be (after my wife and I had been driving our Model 3's for over a year and saw firsthand how good of cars they really were). The Cybertruck's styling was not my cup of tea at first, but it grew on me quickly, as I learned the intent behind the design and material choices. I didn't expect everyone to "get it" and I don't much care what they think, my reservation had zero to do with trying to be important or change my image.

However, after three days of ownership, I can honestly report that people actually do act like I'm more important than when I'm in my Model 3 Performance. They want to talk about the truck, how I like it, what I think of the way it drives, and the 10 or 12 people I've spoke with for an actual conversation have been enthused, pleasant and very respectful.

No, it didn't change who I am, I knew it wouldn't, but there is zero doubt in my mind that it has changed the way strangers see me, for the better. In other words, I don't think it's a misconception that people will see you differently when they see you getting out of a Cybertruck. That was not my plan, but I'm not complaining.

I live in Cheyenne and am waiting for my beast. Given that I live in the land of jacked-up, smokestack brodozers I'm worried about the truck getting keyed or how to handle negative attention. Has anyone had to deal with the folks who truly dislike Elon/Tesla, any advice for me?

I don’t think you have to worry about getting keyed. The stainless steel is harder than keyed, I believe.

I did have a security guard jokingly ask if he can try firing a few rounds at the truck. Hopefully nobody tries that in Cheyenne…

Anybody else tired of the attention yet? It’s pretty crazy still here. I had to start staying in the truck until the coast is clear to make a run for it. A guy chased me on foot while I was driving and was mad I didn’t stop lol

Been driving in New Orleans for 3 weeks and during our recent record flood decided to drive around looking for deep puddles. Hundreds of flooded cars. Local news service caught me driving. Slowly down one street; replayed a dozen times on night news. Attention has increased. Thousands of photos taken, but I swear the truck makes people smile. Nice to bring that many smiles to people’s faces.

Kids don't like to be upstaged by a new car in the family. They need to feel loved, and when they see mom and/or dad focused on a new car, instead of themselves, they feel like they have lost something. I've seen this play out in different families many times. The kid can become resentful of the new car because they feel like it has taken the spot they previously held.

That's why it's important to include the kids when there is a new car in the family. Don't ignore the kids as you spend time playing with your new toy. Yes, time is short, especially between work and all your family obligations, but the car is not going anywhere. Explain to the kids that this is a gift to the whole family. That it's not the car itself that is important, but what it can do for the family.

I realize in this case it might be a little different, with the reactions of strangers being the focus rather than the car itself, but the effect is the same, the kids feel left out as mon and/or dad focus on the reactions people have instead of them. Kids like to feel like they are part of it.

Interesting theory, but don’t think it’s the case for me. My son is just a more introverted kid that doesn’t enjoying being in the center of attention.

Mainly I just wanted an EV truck that was made by Tesla, not by Ford or GM. I was planning to get it regardless of the style. I really liked how it looked when they rolled it out on stage tough. It's just nice to drive Tesla and be in the ecosystem. It's so easy to drive the different cars since they all use mostly the same software. It's just the best EV manufacturer for me. Superchargers, the app is great, etc. Definitely I didn't buy it to be important lol

I felt very weird driving it for the first 2 weeks or so. After that, I mostly got used to it. It is a lot more than I thought too. Never expected people following me into places and asking how much I paid etc.

Dude, you need to turn on the chilled and ventilated seats! They are fantastic! There's nothing like some cool, dry air blowing up your butt, and on your lower back when you feel like you are in the hot seat!

is it bullet proof?.....most asked question.......The touching is crazy.....why? Lambo's don't even get touched........I've used 2 bottles of Windex in 2 months so far to get peoples muck off my truck.......I wish I had a keyfob just to quickly hit the alarm button to keep people off it.

I've watched my parked Cybertruck from different window tables and seen many crowds form around it, checking it out from every angle, taking photos and selfies, etc. I still haven't seen anyone touch it, or a fingerprint left by anyone I didn't know.

Are people in Washington that much better behaved than in other areas of the country?

I am giving 5 minutes allowance now for my errands for those inevitable questions.

Have gone show and tell to neighbours and high school kids nearby.

Also on church parking and contractors doing some work in my house.

They got giddy and the girls giggly when I allow them to the driver's seat for selfies.

Ah WA. Now that makes sense. I lived in WA for more than a decade. I would think twice before touching anything outdoors with my bear hands - thanks to constant rain and cold ?. That could be one plausible reason for your well behaved onlookers. It’s probably a learnt experience of living in PNW, and unknowingly you do it even when it’s not raining! ?. Ok, I’m totally kidding. Hard to say why certain demographics don’t go overboard to touch CT. In places where I live, people used to drool all over CT, including touching it. I have been guilty of doing that too! ?. Now we don’t, unless we see a crazy awesome wrap!

What kind of non-sensical answer is that? Cold? In a maritime climate in the spring?

I think strangers mostly respect other peoples property and are not busy pawing their Cybertrucks. It's another fake made-up story. Don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning that it occasionally happens that someone touches it, but I don't think it's the problem it's represented to be.
