For those of us who purchased with free access to supercharging, can I just supercharge each week and not plug into my home? That was one of the reasons I bought it. The manager at the store told me I should be charging it at home and only supercharge on trips. I'm thinking tesla just doesn't want to pay for all my charging. I only go from my office and back and run errands with an occasional long 80 mile trip to the lake on weekends. Would my battery capability really be effected that much? I plan on keeping my baby for at least 10 years if not more. I'm in love!

It's a matter of what your time is worth to you. Supercharging is harder on the battery, but evidence has shown that it doesn't really have much impact on degradation over the useful life of the vehicle. The thermal management system in Tesla vehicles is top notch. Personally, I charge at home because my time is worth far more to me than free electricity. I had free supercharging on my Model X for 8 years and transferred it to a Model Y last year and only used it when traveling. Ironically, even with free charging on the Y, I still take the CT on trips because I like driving it so much more. Fortunately I got 5000 miles of free charging as a loyalty bonus with the Y, that I've been using for the CT.

Home charging is faster than Supercharging. Takes <10 seconds at home to plug in, same to disconnect. And you leave home with the right amount of range for your needs, assuming not going on a road trip.

If I had free Supercharging benefit, I would only use if >100 miles from home.

They advised you correctly; these vehicles are meant to be plugged into shore power as they sit idle. Do yourself a huge favor and get level 2 charging installed.

Take lots of trips and enjoy the free supercharging.

I have a late model S with lifetime supercharging. Takes over an hour every time I charge it. But that car only charges at the supercharger my time is worth more, but that’s why I have a kid that takes to back and forth to the charger.
Same with my X, only supercharge it. But that one takes half the time to charge then the S. Neither car gets plugged in at home. My CT I didn’t get as lucky so I plug it in at home and charge. Yes very convenient to plug it in and when I come back to it it’s ready to go. But if I could have gotten the lifetime charging with that truck I would do the same as the other 2.
Why pay for electricity when Tesla is paying for you?

I have a Supercharger that is literally on my route to/from work. So twice a week I stop at the Chick-fila-A that is literally right next to the Supercharger, get a late lunch and charge my stainless steel stallion. Free travel is why I paid for a second CT and sold my first one. I cannot wait for the range extender to haul an Airstream around the Western U.S.

Even if it was free I would not use a supercharge, unless I had to drive out of town. I can schedule my level 2 charger to charge every day (80%) at 12:15 am when the electric rates are lowest. (At the most, from 0 to 100% would cost less than $5.)

Very convenient to wake up to a charged Cyberbeast.

Why pay for electricity when Tesla is paying for you?
1. Preconditioning battery on cold days.
2. Preconditioning cabin on cold days.
3. Leave connected to 120v trickle charge if your Tesla is sitting idle for a few days
4. ...

5000 miles since Jan 2025. Have only used free supercharging (outside of 50 miles on a home charger) and battery cycles have been 23. No battery issue as you can see from below. *No loss of personal time as very intentional with when and how we charge and what we get accomplished while doing so. With charging costs in the Bay Area close to $0.59 kWh, we’ll end up saving close to $10K this year and probably more every subsequent year.

This is exactly what I wanted to see. Why pay for the electricity when you get this amazing benefit! I listen to audio books while I charge or update my website. Thank you for sharing this!

I have free supercharging on my Model 3. It's great if you have a Supercharger next to a grocery store or whatever, so you don't waste time sitting around while it charges.

The only thing is if you live in a part of the country where in the winter months it doesn't get above freezing during the day (like in the Northeast), you'll notice that Supercharging sucks when the battery is not warmed up. You'll be stuck charging at 50kw/hour which is a huge waste of time. Times like these I just charge at home.
