Buy a ~20 year old car and fix it up. Then you won’t have to worry about depreciation. Actually, could make money. ?

Just picked up a project car for me and the kids. Got a good deal. Could flip it for a profit if I wanted. Just got done refinishing the wheels and in process of fixing the front bumper.

Here’s a free lesson:

Invest in real estate or other appreciating, cash producing assets so you buy cars for FUN…

And use your investment entity to take title so the gov’t pays for ~40%.
No matter which asset class you invest in, it's not guaranteed to appreciate in the near term. Now is a particularly bad time to invest in residential real estate. But you are correct, new vehicles are consumer items, not appreciating assets. They are not investments in any financial sense of the word.

“well I’m not worried, I’ll just buy one again in a couple years”. She looked at me like I was the biggest idiot ever.
Maybe you need a new wife instead of a new truck, if she is going to ridicule you like that.

New vehicles are not investments. I have no idea why people seem to think they are.

Man. The ferocity with which you guys defend cybertrucks is impressive.
I love them too, but watching what happens to posters who say anything other than glowing praise words on here is savage sometimes.

That said, Cybertrucks with lifetime FSD could even appreciate as FSD matures. AI capabilities are growing at an accelerating pace. Now is probably the worst time of all to sell a used Foundation Cybertruck
I can't even begin to figure out how someone would throw away lifetime FSD on the very cusp of supervised FSD being transitioned to non-supervised.

I don't have an affinity for weakness; especially when men allow their wives to rule the roost ?‍♂

And let’s be clear — regular owners are getting hit hard too. Dual Motor Foundation trucks are sitting at $60K–$65K resale after being bought for $81K+. That’s a $15K–$20K drop in a matter of months. That’s not inflation — that’s market rejection.
That's not market rejection, that's bullshit!

Google used 2025 Cybertruck prices. They are actually holding their value very well. The bullshit is your $60-$65K price range. That's some made-up BS.

What is your agenda here? It's certainly not to share real information.

Alright felt since I started this thread I should follow up. Lesson 1 proof read before posting.
Wound up with $399 a month model y juniper because of its similar cybertruck styling.
Tesla gave 70k for trade in of cybertruck.
Going from the truck to the car is interesting. Truly miss steer by wire the most. Miss the statement that the cybertruck made every time I hopped in.
The new Y feels so much more refined. Looking back I can really tell how much the cybertruck is a rough draft of a masterpiece. Everything in the juniper feels like the years of refinement all coming together. It’s silent when driving, suspension is amazing, and just the overall build is impressive.
That being said I’m still going to circle back and get a cybertruck again a few years from now. I’ll take a used one with 50 or 60 k miles on it and once again enjoy it.
Thanks for all the comments. I’m still learning to embrace love and have lost

Cybertruck 1.5 (and 2.0) in a few years are going to be absolutely amazing as well!

When people spew BS, they deserve to be ridiculed. Your mistake is thinking that glowing praise is needed to avoid savage responses. The truth is that savage responses are usually limited to responses to people who are not speaking to the truth.

I think you have different personal values than some others. You concerned yourself with massive depreciation. I think we all knew these things were going to depreciate massively. When Hertz was selling 1-2 yo Model 3s that were 18k and couldn’t get rid of them, it was clearly evident the CT was going to follow suit. We knew this when we got into this. EVs just don’t hold their value at this stage.

I bought in knowing full well the CT “value” was going to crash. In fact, I am surprised it hadn’t dropped quicker than it has.

But I didn’t buy the CT to be concerned about its depreciation. It wasn’t an investment. It’s a marvel. For me, I still get wowed every time Iturn on FSD and watch this thing drive me to my location. It passes cars that are too slow… it stops at stop lights… makes left turns in areas that I thought it would be a real challenge. I am in tech and this thing never ceases to amaze me. No other vehicle comes close.

For me, the value is in the pleasure of driving it and having it drive me around. I know I “lost” money and I don’t care. I knew this going in and I am not sorry I did. I don’t buy vehicles for investment retention. I didn’t lose sleep if my 100k goes to zero, as long as this thing runs and keeps me happy. It has exceeded my personal value of this vehicle in how much pleasure I get from it.

So full circle, not everyone’s personal value is monetary based. Personal value is what one gets out of it.

One question for you though that is purely out of interest. If you sold your CT… why are you here? Isn’t this the CT Owner’s Club? Why even spend time involving yourself here if you no longer own a CT?
I have bought and sold cool cars since I was 16. Anyone who bought in the early days of the Cyber Truck like me will see depreciation for sure in monetary value. Buy a new BMW 7 series and see the depreciation over the next three years!
I’ve had more fun in this truck than any Italian sports car I’ve owned. The only car that could give me a rush was my 70 challenger. Why do people comment on forums to negate what should not matter to a non owner?
Buy a new boat and try and sell it without a huge loss!
Watch mecum auctions prices go up, values go down.
Buy what you love at some point in your existence and who knows maybe it works out. Move on and take a financial hit if it does not. Your daily driver is not appreciating its depreciating! Lots of smart individuals on this forum, and I cannot wait until the new 15? Chip comes at some point to the truck! If I cannot retrofit my truck I will buy the new one with it. I think I saw a you tube video that stated 2 1/2 trillion things going on a second!
I hope I live long enough to see how all this plays out. There is a balance somewhere just not sure where it is. Hit the gas in a Hell Cat, or self drive in chill?
Both are cool no matter who you are ( except Prius drivers). I am constantly getting passed by a Prius speed demon!
