That repair is not going to be cheap. I bet they try and weasel out of it if they do not want to use their insurance. That's a red flag. Turn it over to your insurance and just get it fixed. You should prob get some good legal advice. That entire rear panel needs to be replaced.
I got an estimate of around $3700 from Tesla Collision Center. I think the repair cost is lower than I expected. Just not sure if clean title without using insurance or additional compensation through insurance is more important for now.

So let me offer my 0.02$... I live in Ca. consider worse case that it will be reported.

I had a Mercedes SUV damaged, rear ended, rear door with spare dented, bumper was about $14k to fix. Insurance took care by the driver who rear ended me.

Not totaled by far.....however,

2 yrs later when I went to the dealer to trade it in... KNEW about the damage and repair - because they did the work- and looked up the 'service' records.

They lowered my trade in value, additionally the Dealer to protect themselves when THEY sell the car - will assure the CarFax is updated - to cover themselves in the future.

This is normal due-diligence in selling, trading in a vehicle. So no...you really 'can't' hide it. unless you go to a independent body repair shop.

Chain body shops may also causally 'report' your damage - as Caliber Collision is a large chain in California and are the de-facto body repair for most all California car insurance companies..

And if you don't think they make money selling data...you're wrong. Insurance companies research the average repair cost and car type so they can set their rates....so your data is being sold and disclosed. Caliber records your VIN.

...do you *really* think they pay someone to 'blank out' your vin when they data dump to the insurance?... or just copy & paste and eMail.

Welcome to the modern world,...your car has a Facebook page.

Its is a shame but the regular guy is exposed to their disadvantage.

The transport company should pay. I had a vehicle in transported that was vandalized somewhere during the 3 day transport. I filed a claim.

Also Tesla, may want the VIN to order the quarter panel...so Tesla might know, so it would be part of the vehicle service history.

My 0.02$

BTW, some companies self-insure. It can be cheaper if you are big enough.

Give the company a chance to do things right. It is quite possible they go beyond what you may think.

Then, if they don't do it right, you have options.

Just make sure you read what you sign.

Not sure why there's a title issue, either Tesla owns it or you own if (if you paid cash, otherwise the lender may own it)

BTW, you do NOT want to pay them until you have this resolved to your satisfaction. Otherwise if they delivered the vehicle and you completed payment your contract may be deemed complete.

I’m not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.
