how about now? any details? I think ive settled on urander rack and awning. mars aeroblade is top of list for tent because of thinness. though cybertruckco’s tent is also compelling.
We hit some delays because we added more features last month.😅 We’ll release this by late August. It’s 3.14 inches tall and has a built-in wind deflector that matches the slope of the rack’s deflector. You can get into the tent right from the bed and even stand inside. Plus, it’s got some cool features you probably haven’t seen before👀

Will this new tent bottom entry work with your enclosed cap, or will it come with it's own enclosed cap modified to work?

It covers the entire top, so you don’t need the roof panels from the cap. We made a version called the Camper Rack, and only the first and last crossbars are required😉

So who is the camper target audience as compared to the enclosed cap with the skylounge on top ? There are obviously several disadvantages too like losing the roof molle for example. I can see how someone would want the standing room for changing etc Just trying to think through which would be best for me and my family.

My wife and I being older, look forward to not having to climb down an outside ladder during the night for bladder relief. That is especially true during inclement weather. One disadvantage of course is we will lose some storage space in the bed of our truck.

The camper setup would have less impact on range and look better with the integrated wind deflector that follows the same slope as the rack’s, but it definitely wouldn’t be queen-sized due to the truck’s width limitation

I'm just scratching my head why so many people started sleeping on top of their truck. I figure it must be a fear of spiders and snakes. Regardless of the reason, it requires you to take down your tent before you use your truck to access a trailhead or take a sunrise photo from somewhere away from your camp.
I agree - all the built-in or attached tents are a huge compromise - you have to break camp every time you want to go somewhere. A far better and cheaper solution is a free-standing tent. My wife would say hotels are better, but we have many years experience car camping, would never go for an integrated popup or hatch-attached "solution." Even our old pop-top Coleman tow-along camper that we used in the Alaska adventure with the kids in the '90's turned out to be a huge amount of extra work and hassle compared with basic tenting.

So the full length tent will be smaller than this one? Or just shaped differently?

Shaped differently - narrower than a queen's 60 inches but much longer at over 100 inches. :giggle:
I guess narrower but longer isn’t all that useful for sleeping in comparison.

seems a bit weird that the thickness of the tent would necessarily affect its width to a great extent. either way once the 3inch tent comes out im going to be so close to buying! excited to see what it looks like.

3.14 inches tall or queen-size width - Can’t have both 😅
So if I may be so bold, as one of the only people who has seen both, which tent/setup do you prefer? Obviously they are both awesome for different applications yada yada but which would you most like on YOUR personal truck?
