So do you happen to know what months/years that Tesla sold HW4 and still had the GPU etc? Maybe I can find a deal on a used one but will want to limit the search to specific months. No my Plaid isn’t new I’ve had it since September 2023 direct factory order. The GPU thing is not new. That happened in 2025. It’s one of the reasons that I cite for my car being the pinnacle of everything that Tesla ever put in a Model S. What’s new to my car is that I just added the track package which updates brakes wheels and tires and unlocks the 200 mph top speed which is capped at 162mph or 175mph depending upon when you bought your model S. Mine was 175 before.
It uses an AMD Ryzen embedded APU for the normal car-computer workload, and a separate AMD RDNA 2 discrete GPU for heavier graphics and gaming tasks. AMD stated that the RDNA 2 graphics side provides up to 10 teraflops of compute, which is why Tesla marketed the refreshed Model S/X as having console-class gaming power.
This was discontinued in 2025, so not really new news. It seems like to change your recently is that they dropped the size of the SSD or memory or something I haven’t really paid super close attention to the specific details of the change because it doesn’t affect me.
