Last night, getting ready to go home from work, my FSD wouldn't turn on. It was even greyed out in the menu. I did a double scroll wheel reboot, but it still wouldn't come back online. Did this happen to anyone else yesterday? I used it at lunchtime with no issues. This morning it's back to normal (I did a full power down last night once at home). Last update was about a week ago.

It has now made two things very obvious to me:

1. I am addicted—a full-blown FSD crackhead—as I immediately went into hard withdrawals, really annoyed that I had to contemplate manually driving home after work. First-world problems, I know.

2. When/if I get a Cybercab and its self-driving deactivates like this (it just happened to me, so no longer zero probability of it ever occurring), I will literally have a brick, as there's no way to drive it without FSD working. Unpleasantness would ensue.

Squircle and pedals for the win yesterday, as they got me home.

I'm at like 95%. FSD is bad in most parking lots, but I agree. My wife and I joked that we may forget how to drive.

I get the FSD grey'ed out when I do not have the premium connection. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes to kick back on.

It won’t back into my garage (it needs to in order to access the charger), and it cannot navigate my work parking lot. I keep trying it, hoping all the disengagements are helping it learn. We have five separate access gates, but only one is for employees. It has finally (most days) learned the correct one when going to work, but when leaving, it still spasms as it tries them all and has never picked the correct one on its own. I also have an assigned parking spot, and it never chooses the correct one (even with me entering its exact coordinates as the work destination). If it was a Cybercab, I literally could not use it to go to and from work in current form. As there is no street parking or even a man gate for access. It has come a long way, and I’m just having fun using it daily (and watching it get better and better).

Can you tell you are driving a cyberbeast in fsd or does it just turn it into an appliance?
I’d say it’s an appliance in four of the five modes… but when in Mad Max, it gets kinda insane (in a good way). Big accelerations (wife gripping console and door), as it lunges happily to the right or left passing cars from either lane, quickly going back, and repeats as necessary while winding its way through slower traffic. It hard-accelerates in adjacent lanes to move past slower cars, then jumps back in front. Drives like a Miami native (I use it all the time now when heading to or from that airport). I really disliked Miami because of its terrible traffic, so I always tried to avoid it, but not so much anymore 🤣.

Also on my daily commute, merging onto I-95, I always scroll up to Mad Max—there’s no hesitation on merging and quickly getting past slower vehicles that always bottle up the on-ramps. It’s pretty glorious, and when I’m in the final lane I want (the one right next to HOV), I need to roll back very quickly to “Hurry”, as it’s not afraid to just maintain 85 right past the usual FLHP hot spots.

Outside of desired routes and routine locations (navigation), FSD doesn't learn locally. It's like a hive mind. Your data and disengagements train the fleet and we get updates that reflect those changes.

It won’t back into my garage ...
My truck won't even back into my driveway! Is there a selection other than driveway? It always wants to pull in so I am disconnecting FSD when I get to the driveway. Though every time I wait till the last second, hoping it will back in this time.... But nope.

I have charger, driveway, and street if my truck was plugged in when I left. If it wasn't, I just have driveway and street.

It doesn't matter, it won't back in for me, either. My MS and M3 have each backed in 2-3 times, but the CT only once. All cars try to pull in head first 99% of the time.

almost certainly a glitch, worked perfect on a two hour drive home on Sunday, but Monday morning it would NOT engage, I am also addicted and pulled over a block from home. Clicked "Power OFF" in the truck menu and when it rebooted it was all good!!!

There is literally no end to edge cases and "parking preferences" is one of the most difficult challenges as it is subjective. As FSD matures and Robo-Cabs (intentional blend) become prevalent their gonna have a go to home space and there may be an option to banish your FSD vehicle to designated Robo locations. May even get a charge and tidy up ... for a subscription fee fee of course.

That will be an urban situation and will motivate me to move further out ...

I love FSD as long as I'm in charge. :)
