Not a feature I was wanting/needing, but I know its important to a lot of people. What happened to this? I thought it was right about the corner.

No. It was never described as right around the corner. For the longest time it was a hard no/never. It became news last year because it was leaked that Tesla had had a change of heart and were now considering it/doing it. This is the latest reporting:

Reported to be "in testing"

Then it was pulled due to "slow adoption" of IOS 16. Sounds like it was somewhere near the realm of "close" if it was pulled from an update.

Yeah I remember that reporting from the time however Tesla internally tests a lot of stuff that they never do anything with. I think Bloomberg was overreaching the whole time and I never took it as something that was imminent.

I stopped paying attention and just rolling my eyes when they said adoption of iOS26 was slow. People were bitching about missing AI and not liking the the way “liquid” looked aesthetically. Do you know how they were able to complain about these thing?!?! Because they were downloading iOS 26!! 😒

There are two reasons for not having Android Auto and Apple Car Play:

  1. Most of the features are either redundant or incompatible with the rest of the Tesla feature set UX
  2. Both Apple and Google require a tremendous amount of API access, and Tesla absolutely and unequivocally cannot and will not open their Telemetry up to anyone, especially those two companies.
Otherwise, I don't think a lot of people have really requested this. I certainly don't want their crap on my truck. Tesla's UX is S-tier.

Yeah. I had CarPlay in my bolt and other than the texting feature which was decent, I hated it.
Apple tries to tell you a LOT about what you can and can’t do while driving and it’s done so clunkily it’s very off putting.

I find the little poorly executed screens that people add to do this unappealing.
there is literally nothing I want from Apple while I’m driving even though I’m deep in their ecosystem except my music and the Tesla UI has that covered with iTunes.
