Additional window tinting: impact on senior drivers

Interesting info about ceramic tint. I really hadn’t kept up with the tinting options so that was news to me when I saw Everyday Chris’ video.

The suggestions from others are very good, drive it for a while, then make decision. Since warmer weather is here, you will know right away. .

I think this is what we’ll do. Sounds like there really may be other important reasons for tinting, beyond just keeping the sun out of our eyes and to just make it a little cooler, lol.

Thanks for your response. In the past we’ve never tinted windows. And haven’t felt like we’ve missed it. Are you against it in general for a specific reason beyond just a personal preference kind of thing?

If you've never tinted your windows, then don't worry about tinting the Cybertruck.
Tesla owners go way overboard with PPF, tint, wraps, etc. A lot of it is just content for 'influencers' and profit for tint shops.

I use AI models frequently and appreciate their typical method of point by point response. But its results are ALWAYS heavily weighed toward what it considers safe behavior.

This generates many errors in the conclusions. Of course you can just ask more detailed questions, or elaborate on the premises.

Let me give examples. People age differently so quoting "age 65 or older" is virtually worthless. A measured approach is needed. Even then, that is a measurement at a point in time. A typical issue is the onset and development of cataracts, which happens over a couple years and gets progressively worse. Make a decision based on your abilities now, and you could not expect it to be equally valid a year or two off.

We also need to consider the presentation of data on the flat screen. A couple months ago I compared my vision with that of the Model 3 in FSD. The night conditions were a very black no-moon night. Driving down a fairly busy unlit street with a large number of people walking around - The FSD finds about twice the walkers that I detect visually.

And the FSD vision is not going to get worse as a aging human may; it will get better.

Then again, the FSD needs humans to take over in various conditions, say where heavy rain obscures the sensors.

Yeah, I think you may be right about if we’ve never done it before and been fine with it then we’d be fine with it now.

There is really strong glare in CT. Most likely with that large windshield.

Tinting will be a huge risk on diminished visibility specially in night driving.

I am now totally dependent on prescription glasses and have half a dozen Oakley shades I can no longer use.

Have ordered a photochromic eyeglasses instead as I won't, and have not had put any tint even on the heydays of active girlfriending. ?

Yeah, definitely sounds like not a one-size-fits-all situation. But also sounds like us retired folk as a group may tend to lean more toward not tinting overall (individual results of course will vary).

Unless it’s unbearable for some unforeseen reason, we’re not going to tint.
