PowerShare Question...

I've gotten the email from Tesla stating we're eligible for the installation.
The techs are here (now) at our house but... I was given a quote for both the hardware and the installation!
Isn't the hardware suppose to be free and I only have to pay for the labor??
I have the AWD version.
Called Tesla support and they have no idea.. they said to call the electrical vendor.
I called the vendor and they're like, "We have to purchase all of the hardware from Tesla".
So basically, I'm screwed and have to pay for the hardware also?
What the Heck???!!!

Hardware is included and you should only have to pay for installation (AWD model).

The Cyberbeast model comes with hardware as well and $4k credits towards installation.

Maybe call back into Tesla’s Support (new support specialist) or try your nearest Service Center.

GM. The universal wall charger and 3V Backup Gateway are included in the purchase price of the Foundation series package.
You already paid for THAT hardware.
Wires and mounting he that the installer needs is extra and should be reflected in their quote.

What does your quote say per line item? Depending on the installer, hardware can be listed on the quote but it should be $0.00

If your panel and meter are on your same garage wall, there is very little work but to mount the gateway and UWC and run less than 5' of wire that costs $10 tops. Any licensed electrician can install this and 3-4 hours of work shouldn't be more than $500 tops.

Agreed! I eventually declined the gateway and only had them install the universal charger. I'm getting power walls and will use that gateway instead. Don't need to use my truck to power the house.

I had mine installed through a certified Tesla provider. The hardware was included at no cost and the out of pocket was $1500. Even that was covered by a rebate from the local power company. The solar installer handled my paperwork for the rebate. I ended up paying nothing after the rebate.

I recommend doing your homework on the chosen provider. If you get the right one, Tesla will work with them to get everything sorted out prior to the install date. All Tesla required equipment was acquired directly at no cost without my help.

Looking to get in contact with Tesla about my install. Did you speak to anyone directly on the phone at Tesla? If so, do you still have their contact information?

I never spoke with Tesla. And I doubt their is a contact for that directly. I worked directly with YesSolar in NC. They worked directly with Tesla because they are certified partners. Your provider should be certified and have a direct working relationship with Tesla already.

Tesla service center and support were clueless. They cannot help you and should not be contacted. Eligible customers will fill out a survey after buying the truck. Once approved, Tesla will let you know via the app. Then you can find a certified installer near you. Contact them, and they should handle it from there FOR you.

Well like I said, I would contact local solar installers to find one who is already working with Tesla. Once you do, they can handle everything for you. I would not look for help from Tesla directly. They are also choosing to roll this out slowly. So you are not missing out, right now people are getting them installed slowly so Tesla can get it working fully. I would not expect them to start being proactive with customers until they are further along in the roll out. This is very very early days.

Broad advice for everyone, I recommend contacting local solar installers, not an electrician. Good Solar installers are used to working with Tesla on home site projects, have better electricians, and are more familiar with this technology.

I would start by finding all the local solar providers, and then find the ones that already work with Tesla. This should not be hard, but it is the most critical part of this process.

Electricians will be of no real help. Even if you just want a charger installed, speak to a Tesla recommended solar provider. Many of them have discount programs, local incentives, and a way better understanding of this technology. If you contact an electrician expect to get no help from Tesla and a bigger bill.

IF you don't have solar, and don't want solar, then you might not want to take on the PowerShare because you can get a store voucher from Tesla instead.

Order and Installation Process
Within a few weeks of you placing your Foundation Series Cybertruck order, here’s what you can expect:

1. We will email you a $2,500 Tesla Shop voucher2 and instructions for coordinating with a Tesla Certified Installer for the installation of your Powershare Home Backup equipment. The voucher can be used for either a single purchase in the Tesla Shop, which may include various items up to the voucher value, or toward the cost of your Powershare Home Backup equipment.
2. If your home is eligible and you are interested in installing a Powershare Home Backup, you can contact a Tesla Certified Installer and sign an installation agreement to have your Powershare Home Backup equipment installed. Visit our designated Certified Installer Qmerit to request a quote. Installation cost depends on the installation configuration and complexity, but typically ranges from $2,000 to $3,500.
3. If your home is ineligible or you are not interested in installing Powershare Home Backup equipment, you may use the voucher for a single purchase in the Tesla Shop as an alternative.
4. Once you have signed an installation agreement with a Tesla Certified installer, use the provided voucher in the Tesla Shop to purchase your Powershare Home Backup equipment.
5. After receiving your Powershare Home Backup equipment, coordinate with the Certified Installer for installation. After permitting is finalized, installation typically takes one day. If required, the installer will coordinate final inspection with the local permitting department.
