I was one of those that had time to fill before my Cybertruck would be an available and did the shortest possible lease. They reached out to get the lease while we wait for the truck. However, once the truck is available now I can’t get it because I am stuck in a lease and you would think Tesla would be flexible if rolling into the purchase of the truck. I am a huge Tesla fan and have owned for many years, but I wish they had been able to do flexible terms and it would only encourage us to be able to move forward with the purchase sooner. Not sure what can be done, guess I will have to wait another year. Anyone have any suggestions ?
Thanks!

People really think Tesla cares about people leasing cars and being in that contract?

It’s clear they don’t seem to care…. I just find it unfortunate and not good for Tesla business.

I don't think any other manufacturers would do you any favors. It's business. You signed it. Sorry to tell you..

I don’t lease cars, but I have family and friends who do, and I haven’t heard of any manufacturer that would not work with a purchaser who wants to trade in / or up and has an existing lease.

The devil is in the details of course, but one only has to search “end car lease early on trade” for more information.

You would think within Tesla you could trade in the lease for a purchase, but I spoke with the sales team and they told me it’s not possible. I have not gone back to the contract, but I believe what they told
Me. Apparently they have been getting a lot of calls similar to mine showing this is a common problem.

I was in the same boat. I leased a model Y a year ago on a 2 year lease when my Ram finally died, thinking it would be about that long for my number to come up and not wanting to buy another ice vehicle. Unfortunately we don't have many options. My early lease termination fees Tesla quoted was more than the sum of my remaining 12 lease payments. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the CT anyway because I'm impatient like that and fortunate to be able to cover it. Though also because I'm over milage on my lease or costs me .25c to drive it (on top of the payment, so in a round about way I'm at least putting that money into my CT vs paying more to drive the model Y I don't and won't own (confusing and self justifying math I know). So now the Model Y basically sits in my garage for another year.

I knew better than to lease a car and have always been told it's rarely a good idea and always avoided it. Now I've really learned that lesson the hard way. But I'm loving the CT :)

I do agree and really wish Tesla would have given those in this situation some reasonable option though. I made my decisions before this but, especially for those Reservation holders they directly enticed with least terms "while they waited" for their cybertruck.
