Open the tailgate- look left and right - take 4 star bolts off ( relegate won’t drop) take 2 post latches off. Take carbide bit and elongate holes ( backside so relegate closes more) reinstall and tighten. If not enough repeat process until satisfied. It is that simple. If not comfortable taking 4 bolts off and slotting hole 1/4 “ - bring to anyone. It can be done in less than a hour. TESLA WONT DO IT
Thank you. I just wasn’t sure based on previous posts, but that did clear it up. Sounds super easy

You know pal. Why don’t you put your comments in a place that the sunshine doesn’t go. You are correct. You are ignorant. And your name “ rudedawg” fits you correctly. As some say Good For You. Perhaps you can figure out what those initials stand for.

Took took note of how far out the tail gate was. Transferred it with a silver pen to the jam so I could remove that material. Found a bit smaller than than the hole but bigger than the screw/bolt if that makes sense.

Drilled with little pressure as not to break the bit. Just put it on high and took my time. Finished with a file, then some black paint. Re-installed and my passenger side is in my spec now haha .

That is great. I am glad that I was able to help.
The previous post from “ rudedawg” sums up what I think about these types of morons who think they are geniuses and decide to post on a typographical error. Shame on idiots who want to ask stupid questions.
Be Well and good luck with your truck.

Dude, WTF. Chill. I was serious and didn't know what that word was. I am not mechanically inclined and before I try to fix my tail gate, I was wondering what that part was.

I was NOT trying to be an asshole and correct you. I honestly thought that was a part I need to look for on my truck.

And even though my name is "rudedawg" doesn't mean I am rude. My last name is actually "Rude" hence the call sign I went by in the military "rudedawg".

So you need to chill. I'm the OP in this thread and I was generally curious what that term was. Didnt know it was a mistype.

Geezus.

Sorry pal. I was thinking you were just a ball buster. I stay away from posts because often people want to criticize people.
I apologize.

Again. Wasn't taking a jab and it was a f'n honest question. I have a good reputation on this forum and never take jobs or insult people, like you just did to me.

I find it tough to swallow that the tailgate latch system is not adjustable. Every panel that is installed on a vehicle is adjustable.

Are we missing something? It's crazy that owners of a $100k vehicle have to resort to a DIY method to make the tailgate flush.

Just came here to see if anyone else's tailgate was misaligned, and found this thread. I couldn't believe it either, but I looked through everything I could find in the CT service manual related to the tailgate, latch, bump stop, and closer and nothing pointed to adjustability other than the hinge itself, which wouldn't help the misalignment at the top. The passenger side of my tailgate is out less than what I see from some of you guys, but I still notice it every single time I close the tailgate...
Not at the point where I'm going to slot the latch, even though I have a drill press on my work bench that would do it, but I may be if I don't get any joy when I bring it into service.

Will this adjustment fix the tailgate that won’t unlatch 50% of the time? Sometimes it takes multiple attempts. You can hear the latch mechanism trying to unlatch. (It is the same whether you use the app, screen or physical button. The Tailgate alignment itself almost perfect.

DO NOT USE A DRILL PRESS. READ WHAT I SAID. slot the holes in one direction only. If you honestly believe TESLA will do it than wait until they say “ it is not adjustable “. These are AMERICAN vehicles and they passed Tesla inspection. Don’t you think by now someone would have said that Tesla can fix it. THEY WONT BECAUSE THE ONLY FIX IT FIR THEM TO WITHER REPLACE THE LATCHED WITH A SLOTED VERSION OR SLOT THEM. AND I KNOW THEY WONT SLOT THEM.

So put your big boy pants on - take 4 star bolts off , remove latches and slot the front edge with either a rat tail file or a carbide bit 1/4 “ or so - more if necessary to allow the latches to adjust in enough to make tailgate move in flush with the light bar.

The unlatch issue I believe is a different issue that Tesla can solve.
