You’re talking about the sport/adventure activity called “Off-roading” which, I assume, has some understood rules that apparently don’t include backing up.

I grew up living and driving on the dirt, gravel and mud roads and tracks we used for roads in Louisiana. If we got bogged down we did what we had to do to “make it through”. It wasn’t a game or sport; it was life. So, for me, he made it through.

YRMV (Your Rules May Vary)
Maybe I misunderstood your first comment. We both agreed he made it though. If you get past the obstacle and don’t need recovered, it’s considered success.

Unless you belong to the Cybertstuck Reddit Group. Then it's nothing but an abomination!

True, but they’re a pathetic sad and miserable bunch. “My Kia can do this” Yup, you betcha. How do you like your Kia?

Actually, the AWD with its locking front and rear diffs, is the better machine off-road.
Actually that would be incorrect.

The trimotor effectively has 3 locks as opposed to 2.

that’s on top of the more precise control I mentioned.

I have a lot of engineering experience with differentials as well as decades of off road experience including servicing vehicles in the Algerian Sahara. The 3 motor truck is using electronic traction control on the rear. It does not come into action until there is a traction problem. That is a great way to get stuck. It is always best to be fully locked up before heading into a difficult obstacle and clear it easily. You do not want to get into trouble and then try to fix the situation retroactively.

Rivian uses electronic traction control with open diffs and you can see in videos the issues that creates. Even Kyle Connor of the Out of Spec Youtube videos complains that the Rivian has electric traction control rather than locking Diffs. As well, he agrees with me that the AWD Cybertruck is the better one for off-road because of this fact. The Cyberbeast will be fine for most off-road scenarios but for difficult climbs, especially with large steps or rocks to get over, a fully locked mechanical diff regardless of manufacture, is the way to go. Mechanical diffs front and back is unstoppable. Even Tesla knows this.

Appreciate your insights but respectfully as someone with direct line to both Rivian & Tesla engineering, they are completely different mechanisms.
The Tesla trimotor can lock substantially better than the Rivian electronic traction control. Not even close.
