I suppose bad Friday the 13th luck. This guy tried to make an illegal right turn into the shell station from the center lane, after turning out into the center lane illegally, right in front of me. Pretty significant damage to the front and driver quarter panel. Truck is driveable in medium height. In low the wheel smacks the sidewall when turning left. Sentry for the win here so there’s no question on fault.

Sad my poor truck is damaged and im very concerned about this going on the carfax report. Going to push for additional restitution for loss of value. Luckily im in the Bay Area and hopefully that helps with parts and timing for fix…

Depreciated value: it is a real thing - in California and depending on your insurance company you might have to get an attorney to pursue Depreciated Value on your claim. State Farm - did not at least some years ago.

Of course this is BS: because if THAT driver hit your Cybertruck and TOTALED it....his insurance - if they found CARFAX previous incident - would offer you LESS.

At least put them on notice firmly - that your Foundation Series - Special Edition CT is fundamentally deprecated due to this. I'd further ask them to provide replacement value after the repair - to see if by their own hand they agree the value is less.

the bumper is flimsy and crumpled. The stainless front corner took the brunt of the impact. I’d think a more substantial bumper would hold up better but the front stainless held up pretty well. It’s bent but still maintained mostly it’s shape.
Engineering a vehicle to handle a crash is a balancing act. Putting too strong of a bumper on a vehicle just transfers the forces to potentially more expensive chassis parts, making the repair more expensive, not less. The hard exoskeleton helps spread the forces out, lessening the chances of more expensive damage, deeper in the structure.

I don’t think they will total it but I think it’s going to be $20-25k. The Stek wrap itself is $2k plus install. The front stainless assembly under the hood is all bent, front bumper, quarter panel trim, driver door, long trim that runs down the roof….
I was involved in a wreck with 007 causing almost identical damage. No front door damage though. Repair was 3 weeks and $12k. Because no structural damage occurred it was simple bolt off/bolt on repair. I didn't have a wrap on mine though. As long as you don't have to wait on parts like I did it may be a week for turn around.

Instant karma for them, but a very bad day for you. People need to learn to maintain their lane. If they had there wouldn’t have been any accident at all.

Out of curiosity how did the post accident interaction go with them?

I have never been a part of an accident with a wrapped vehicle, does that get covered by insurance?

he was polite, a bit shaken up. Said he didn’t see me and asked if I had just turned onto the road. I politely invited him into the car and showed him the video. He realized he obviously made a big mistake, but did not go as far to say “that was totally my fault”. He did say “ Sorry about your brand new truck”. I called the police, but since neither car was blocking the road and no one was injured they said they would not come out

the insurance should cover the car and any aftermarket additions. Including wrap.

How did you like the gloss black before this happened? PPF or Vinyl?

thankfully, yes. State Farm contacted me this morning and confirmed the other driver was 100% at fault and liable. I don’t mean to stereotype or make assumptions, but Luckily, I was in San Ramon. I am often in Berkeley and Oakland for work… I brought up loss of value and how they handle that, the State Farm agent said they were not aware of value loss associated with an accident on the Carfax report. Of course… i’ll need to see how this plays out and potentially get a lawyer involved unfortunately.

This is why I hate dealing with State Farm. I'm fairly certain my 10 year old kid is aware of that phenomenon. If I had an insurance company employee tell me that I'd immediately ask for their supervisor and do my best to get them fired or in some sort of remedial training program.

It's --literally-- the single reason that entire industry of tracking car history EXISTS.

Almost pulled a police PIT maneuver. Clearly they were in the wrong.
