Sorry for your wreck. Nothing you could do in that situation. Gonna be a 3 week repair and about $13,000. Hope you got a guy with a good liability policy or your own will cover the rental while in the shop. Hopefully there is no structural damage and it just a "bolt off-bolt on" repair. Speaking from experience.
I don’t think they will total it but I think it’s going to be $20-25k. The Stek wrap itself is $2k plus install. The front stainless assembly under the hood is all bent, front bumper, quarter panel trim, driver door, long trim that runs down the roof….

I hate that many people don't use turn signals these days. If the idiot had his turn signal on, it may have given the CT driver an extra split second to react sooner... maybe not avoiding the accident entirely but lowering the speed at impact.
Unfortunately I was doing about 30-35 mph when he made this decision and given he’d just turned on to the street he was only going about 5-10mph. I thought that since he illegally turned out into the middle lane that he was actually tying to cut across to make a left at the next light. I locked up the brakes and turned to avoid him but there was no nothing I could do.

I’m glad you’re ok. Sorry you have to go through what’s involved in responding to this.

What is your opinion of the front bumper? Does it provide reasonable protection or mitigate damage in a collision? Do you think an Up Performance bumper would provide any meaningful extra protection?

the bumper is flimsy and crumpled. The stainless front corner took the brunt of the impact. I’d think a more substantial bumper would hold up better but the front stainless held up pretty well. It’s bent but still maintained mostly it’s shape.

Yes I had the same thought. it’s parked in the garage. Not going to drive it until I take it to the Sunnyvale Tesla repair center. Luckily wife homeschools the kids and I can use her Model Y until I get a rental.
Oh no! You're in The Bay Area... This makes your story even more frustrating! I am so sorry this happened. The Bay Area has the worst drivers I have ever seen in my life, beating out Massachusetts by a good stretch.

I hope it gets better.

I suppose bad Friday the 13th luck. This guy tried to make an illegal right turn into the shell station from the center lane, after turning out into the center lane illegally, right in front of me. Pretty significant damage to the front and driver quarter panel. Truck is driveable in medium height. In low the wheel smacks the sidewall when turning left. Sentry for the win here so there’s no question on fault.

Sad my poor truck is damaged and im very concerned about this going on the carfax report. Going to push for additional restitution for loss of value. Luckily im in the Bay Area and hopefully that helps with parts and timing for fix…

I am fortunate we both have State Farm so I’m hoping it will be faster than normal. But State Farm I’ve heard is not the best on claims

If you think Bay Area is bad, just wait until you drive in LA ?

hahah yeah, I used to live in Hollywood... 405 sucks, for sure! I still think the Bay Area wins though lol

Maybe I should just say California as a whole, no offense to the good ones.

JFC!

This is exactly why we have to keep our head on a swivel and always be analyzing and anticipating others moves. Sucks man! Accidents happen yeah but I truly believe we have some of the dumbest people on this planet simply handed a drivers license. There is little intelligence involved in gaining a US Drivers License.

Hoping for a quick repair for you!
