Yesterday, I exited a coffee shop to find two older women standing by my truck, pointing at it (sentry mode footage confirmed they were touching it as well). They asked if it was a 'NASA vehicle,' and I explained that it was a Tesla Cybertruck.
I could immediately tell the type of people I was dealing with based on their belongings and demeanor. After a few minutes, one of them inquired, 'So what do you think of Elon?' I responded, 'Are you referring to his technological achievements or his personal opinions?' They replied, 'Both! Even though we already know where you probably stand.'
I emphasized that in America, you don't have to agree with everyone, and that's the beauty of the First Amendment. I explained that while they clearly had a preconceived notion of my views, it's important to separate the person from their opinions. I went on to say that Elon Musk chose to come to America and bring his innovative ideas with him. Without SpaceX, we would have relied on Russia to rescue stranded astronauts. I pointed out that throughout history, many brilliant minds have had controversial opinions, but their contributions to society are undeniable.
Ultimately, I gave them a 15-minute tour of the truck, and they thanked me, saying they loved it and that I was right. However, I doubt I changed their minds. As I was explaining how fingerprint-prone the truck was, one of them obsessively began touching it. I don't think they were operating on all cylinders to begin with.
