Thank you.Yes, but this is not the only app that does it.
The My Tesla Remote app ($1.99 with no subscription fees) can be installed on the Watch only without installing the companion app on the iPhone and paired with the Tesla by VIN. This app can do all the same commands via Bluetooth (if this your choice) that the official Tesla app for the Apple Watch can do. In addition, it can also pop the doors open in case the handle is frozen, which the official Tesla app for the Apple Watch cannot do (yet).
it seems to me that the official Apple Watch allows me to drive the Tesla without opening the app, while the My Tesla Remote app (called Tesla Smart Remote when it’s installed on the Apple Watch) requires that I open the app to be able to drive.
I don’t live in a cold climate where the handles usually freeze, but if I did, I would like to have a feature in the Apple Watch app to pop the doors open (unlatch the doors) from the Apple Watch, which the My Tesla Remote app / Tesla Smart Remote app can do.
This allows you not to have a phone with you.How does this improve upon the basic Android smartphone functionality? I just walk up and the door is unlocked when I get there.
I have been able to do this with my Tessie app, plus more, for months...Here's how Apple Watch Key unlock function will work. Posted by @chri890216
Third-party apps like Tessie and Stats will likely cease to exist soon or will greatly reduce the feature set because of the new Tesla API pricing for third-party apps.I have been able to do this with my Tessie app, plus more, for months...

I am good with using the native Tesla app, but was not clear on all the excitement as this has been a viable option for quite some time. Thanks for your insight.Third-party apps like Tessie and Stats will likely cease to exist soon or will greatly reduce the feature set because of the new Tesla API pricing for third-party apps.
The app for the Apple Watch I used before the native Tesla app for Apple Watch came out - My Tesla Remote - only costs $1.99 with no monthly fees and does more than the native Tesla app for the Apple Watch currently does. And when installed directly on the Apple watch without using the companion app (VIN-based authentication), no Tesla API is used, so it will likely continue to work if the developer unbundles the API-based authentication from the VIN-based authentication and continues to release the app with VIN-based authentication only.
The apps that pull a bunch of stats from Tesla vehicles (like Tessie and Stats) rely solely on API-based authentication even for simple vehicle controls. They will have to let go of 95% of their features and completely re-write their apps to be able to have the Apple Watch app. I suspect it's not worth for them to do this, as there is now the official Tesla app for the Apple watch.
Unless Tesla changes their new API pricing again, most of these third-party apps will die.
I see. I didn't know there were people that left the house without their phone with them. But judging from the photos, it's like having a phone strapped to your wrist! This allows you not to have a phone with you.
My phone goes everywhere, hence, the watch thingy has never been an issue.I see. I didn't know there were people that left the house without their phone with them. But judging from the photos, it's like having a phone strapped to your wrist!
